Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell 16200 Desktop HEPA Air PurifierCustomer Review: great unit, love the noise! Summary: 4 Stars
most of the complaints here are about the noise level. I have one of those towers from sharper image that are noiseless - and they work wonders. Problem is, when my son was born (19 months ago) any sudden noise from the streets (or from our living room) would wake him up. We started using a portable heater to supplement our heat during the night (we live upstate NY, and it gets really cold) and realized he started to sleep better. Once the cold season was gone, I kept the fan on, but the heater off. Since it's a waste to just have that thing doing nothing (other than providing white noise) I bought one of these, this way it would make the noise AND clean the air. It's awesome. And we moved from NYC to here before the baby was born - virtually noise-free considering manhattan. If we were to still live there, this would be a MUST. Love this unit. Don't know how much of the air it cleans (I haven't cleaned the filter since the light indicating that it is time hasn't lit up) so I can't really say it's good for that, but it must be, right? Besides, we still keep the tower on 24/7, because I know it works. Only reason for the 4 star rating, otherwise it would've been a 5 star for sure.
Customer Review: Exactly What I Was Loooking For Summary: 4 Stars
Having used a large fan for white noise, lately I found that I was getting very dry throughout the night. My mouth was so parched when I woke up I could hardly swallow and my eye lids were stuck to my eyeball; pretty miserable. I started out looking for white noise machines but after researching and reading many reviews of various products I decided most wouldn't serve my need. Then I came across a review for the Honeywell 16200 Desktop HEPA Air Purifier that said they used it for the white noise and it had variable speeds, (One persons white noise is another's irritation). Having received it a few days ago I was anxious to see if I was going to be able to remove my old fan. Set up was a breeze. At first I thought it would be too loud or too soft but after moving it away from my bed I found I can set it on II and it works perfectly for me. During the summer when I like to sleep with the window open and so endure more noise, I think setting III on the machine will work well. It was never my intention to use the air purifier but see that as a bonus.
Customer Review: Great air purifier for the price Summary: 4 Stars
Pros:
-size, very compact
-can be placed horizontally or vertically to save space
-does a very good job of removing particles from the air
-ionizer removes odors
-price, try to find an air purifier/ionizer for under $40
Cons:
-fully effective for rooms 110 square feet or smaller
-noise level (at low it is slightly noticable, on medium you have to turn up the tv a few notches, on high it sounds like a fan or air conditioner on full blast)
For the price, it does a terrific job in smaller rooms with the only drawback being the noise (which on low is very bearable). I leave it on high all day while I'm at work, switch to medium in the evening and low at night and it does the trick.
Customer Review: This Unit is About as Noisy as a Window Air Condition Unit Summary: 4 Stars
I thoroughly satisfied with this product. I have an awful spring allergy seasons and this past spring has been my most minor one so far thanks to this air purifier. I have a small bedroom and I kept this machine running 24/7. I also kept the windows closed all spring (it is so tempting to open them during the first few nice days of spring but I resisted). Keeping the windows shut and this machine running, my bedroom air was clean of pollen and I was able to breathe through my nose when going to sleep (if you have allergies you know how awful it is not to be able to breathe through your nose when trying to sleep).
Customer Review: filters the air Summary: 4 Stars
does the job for the price. its not very quiet but not in a bad way. its like an window vent air-con. you get used to the sound. prefilter is washable and lasts. buy a couple of replacement hepa filters so you can change them when needed so you can keep it running non stop. i run mine on low. but if you not home i suggest running it on high. its more noisy on high.
