My hope for this item was two fold. I wanted to reduce my chronic allergies and to reduce the ammount of year round dust that plages my bedroom.
I do believe the allergies are better. The dust however seems unchanged. How this is possible I dont know. As for the sound.. .it is true that on high speed one cannot really call it quiet. It is a simple matter of physics that when moving air in such a way it cannot be silent. I keep mine on low and the white noise it provides is perfectly acceptable. The item is somewhat large. On me it is nearly knee high and probalby 18 inches wide.

We got this filter to supplement one of the old round style ones. It works better than that one because of the three speeds as opposed to two and the better airflow pattern, but while the old round filter is still working fine, this one seems to have burned a wire in the motor after about 5 years. It still works, but the burned wiring smell defeats the purpose. Yes, we replaced the filters on schedule. We do have lots of dust, but that hasn't killed the old one. Certainly not bad, but not Five Star performance. It is easier to remove and replace the filter on this one.Customer Review: Works well but sounds like a jet.

It works very well and I have noticed a huge improvement in air quality as well as reduced dust. However as some of the other reviewers mentioned this thing is loud. I live 80 feet from 12 lanes of I-5, this air cleaner drowns out the freeway noise (somewhat on low settings but when I turn this jet on high I doubt I would hear a semi crashing through my BRICK wall) - which i consider to be positive but for those of you who live in a quite area you might want find a quiter model. I just received this item, the reveiws were saying this is very loud, but when compared to the older models. It is still only half the noise level on high. (It sounds like a fan) It dosent seem to suck the smoke in as well as the reveiws say it does, It seems to blow smoke up in the air instead in to the filter.Honeywell 17000 Permanent Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier
