My husband was having difficulty with allergies and our family doctor recommended a hepa air cleaner. After hours and hours of research, I decided on the Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort Permanent, True HEPA Air Purifier. It had been a miracle worker. My husband has been sleeping like a baby and has regained his energy. We have no problems with the sound of the machine. It is relatively large, but that isn't a problem.
I have recommended one to my son and several friends!

Silent on low, quiet on medium; high sounds like any household fan. You do not hear a mechanical sound, only air moving. Seems to works well but all of my rooms are bigger than the recommended 250 ft2. I am considering buying a second larger unit or an ionic air cleaner for limited time use. Definately less dust, but hard to tell how effective because I also swithed to a better furnace air filters. basically a good unit, easy to move from room and as quiet as you need it.Customer Review: So quiet you'll wonder if it's working

Bought one of these for my mom first. She liked it so much I bought one for myself and got rid of my old noisy model. This one is amazingly quiet. At first I thought maybe it wasn't working properly because it was so quiet, but soon I began to feel my allergies reduce. I don't have to raise the volume of my TV to hear over it AND I feel that it's really cleared the air of allergens. This is the best air purifier I've owned, and I've had several different ones.Customer Review: My second one

We are on our second SilentComfort Air Purifier. We have had one of these that ran 24/7/365 for about 8 years and the motor bearing finally gave out. I think that was a lot of use and we got our money's worth on the first one. We replaced it with one exactly like it because we really missed the pleasant white noise it adds to our bedroom. Both the clean air and the soothing noise help us to sleep. Hope they are still making these 8 years from now.Customer Review: Nicely Done

This unit is quiet! I have it in the bedroom and running all the time to counter pet dander, dust, construction particulates, and sand (one of the joys of beach living). I replaced a different model Honeywell purifier with this model, because of the advertised quietness and absence of updraft of cold air.
I could not be happier. The unit is quiet, does not produce the cold air updraft, and works perfectly.
