Customer Review: Noticeable Improvement

We ordered this air purifier after reading hundreds (yes, hundreds) of reviews on this purifier and many other purifiers. We are on a tight budget and wanted to get the most for our limited budget. After just one night my husband is snoring a lot less. He is hardly snoring at all. Yes, the unit is fairly loud when on high, but I was actually expecting it to be louder. I have a grain grinder and thought it would be similar. Not at all. We have only had it a couple of days so I cannot comment on it's longevity. One item to note - it seems to be a common dilemma that Amazon lists it as the 50250N and what you get from the seller is the 50250. We wanted the 50250N because of the lifetime filter, but instead we were sent the 50250. At first we were disappointed, but the manual says the hepa filter lasts for 3 - 5 years and after I thought about it some, I decided I really didn't want a filter that lasted forever and you only had to vacuum it because I know you cannot possibly vacuum out all the dirt, dust, etc. I want to replace the filter every couple of years.
I will update after we run it for a couple of months.

had the honeywell air cleaner almost a mouth so far doing a good job .keeps the air in my apt clean have not had to clean the pre filter yet or hepa filter yet like the idea of just vac hepa filter once a year or when the hepa light or pre filter light comes on . no light yet . little loud on high but i don't care about that as long as it keeps the air in my apt clean its worth being lond . the power switch has a blue light works as a nice night light when i go to bed . 10/07/09 had the honey well air cleaner for 4 mouths does a good job cleaning air in my apt changed the pre filter just this last weekend had alote of fine white dust on the prefilter was little messie . filter last little over 3 mouths moves lote of air on high speed Update on honeywell air cleaner 7/11/10 still doing a good job the maintanice men do alot of mowing this time of year it puts the cleaner to work on removeing the smell of cut grass in my apt does it very well changed the pre filter it was pluged up with fine dust . the filter last about 3 mouths you can tell when filter needs changed once filter is replaced does a better job.Customer Review: Overkill for anything less than a master bedroom

Pros:
Does filter out odors fairly well.
Dusting has gone from a daily chore to a weekly 'on the way by' type thing
My allergies are almost completely gone when I wake up...HOWEVER...it cannot filter out allergens in beddings/curtains/etc, so make certain you give it a fair shot.
Cons:
Even on its lowest setting you'll want it around a corner if possible. When you have direct line of hearing it's about floor-fan loud. When it's around a corner on lowest it sounds sort of like flowing water. Either way I've slept with it in both configurations.
Note: I have this filter set on a dresser at about where my head rests when I sleep, not on the floor. It IS on a hard surface. On a soft surface it might make less noise.
I plan to order another one for my other room. Everyone else in the house is jealous. This thing DOES replace daily dusting as a chore when you have people do things like..oh...stick a leafblower into the clothes drier's exhaust and blow years of lint and mold into the house because that's how he needed to clean it.

This is not your typical "ionic breeze" style purifier. it is not silent, it is not energy efficient, it does create some waste heat (heats up the room when run continously)
However. If you are using this to circulate your room and properly clean the air. this is your unit.
Pros -
Will clean a standard room (12x15) multiple times an hour.
has permanent filters
sturdy base will not fall over like some of those tower models (good if you have kids)
Cons -
Loud. the low setting is noticeable, the high setting is very loud, sounds like an air conditioner on the high setting
large - takes up a large floor footprint and must be at least 3 feet from every wall (basically in the middle of the room)
uses substantial electricity, we have 3 running full time in our house. it will eat up considerably more energy than your "ionic breeze"
permanent filters are not really permanent. apparently people have complained that the filters need replacing, this is not the case unless you damage them or physically get them wet.

This Honeywell 50250N canister type air purifier has made such a difference in my life! Truly! I concur with the no more allergy pills mantra that permeates these other reviews. The first night it truly was what I imagine the air to be at the top of Mt Everest!. I'm a total klutz mechanically, but even I managed to get the bottom off, install the prefilter, and put it all back together again! I so enjoyed the clean air that at first I carried it up and downstairs with me, but now I've decided to get another one for my downstairs den- particularly since that is my space with the wood burning fireplace which is going full force this chilly time of year. I followed someone else's suggestion and just put a book over the LED light @ night, and I don't find the noise bad at all. I nod off to sleep just the same. Haven't cleaned it yet (just got it about 2 months ago), but I will certainly vacuum the pre filter as has been suggested and put it right back in! Since I am a total Consumer Reports advocate, I'm glad I took them at their word and purchased this product.
