Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA FilterCustomer Review: After a month use, Well worth the cost Summary: 5 Stars
We own a house down in Florida and i could see the dust flooting in the air until they put a 3M filter in the centeral AC air exchanger and no more dust. It got me thinking since our NY house has always been dusty so i bought this unit for my bedroom. Really didn't pay attation to the room size so this is cleaning the air in a room which is little bigger than the size it's supposed to be cleaning. So far after 5 days i don't see any build up on the filters yet but i guess it's early. As for the noise it's the same as any fan would be, louder when it's on high and lower when it's on low but not a big deal either way. Another point that this web site doesn't explain is that this can be used effectively in bigger rooms. 80 sq foot room will have it's air changed 5 times, 149 sq foot, 2.8 times. 300 sq foot 1 time, These are listed right on the front of the box. One concern was the cost of running this thing 365 days a year so i wrote Kaz Consumer Relations Department and they sent a formula to figure what the oost of running the unit would be. It goes like this;
Determine the "Cost to Operate" this item you will need to know the wattage and your `cost per Kilowatt Hour' for your electricity. Once you have this information you should take the wattage of your unit (The wattage of this unit is 102 on the highest setting) and multiply it by .001. Next, multiply the answer by the `cost per KwH'. That answer will give you the cost per hour to run this item.
Example:
Space heater uses 1500 watts. 1500*.001 = 1.5
Average cost per KwH in MA is 14.62 cents.
1.5*14.62=21.93 cents per hour.
If you run this heater 4 hours per day for 30 days it will cost $26.32
Update: Been a month with this unit running on high-medium when I'm home and low at night. My bedroom is around 15x12 and I do leave the door open. This unit working very well, filter is starting to show signs of trapping things from the air. The dust build up is much less on the furniture and I can see the air isn't clogged with dust when light shines through the windows. I'm also finding it much easier to breath so for the money this is worth the investment I made.
Customer Review: Compact Air Cleaner - Honeywell HHT-011 Summary: 5 Stars
So far I'm happy enough with my purchase of the Honeywell HHT-011 to have purchased a second one for the spare bedroom. The product is very compact, but still moves quite a bit of air on the higher fan speeds. The highest of the three fan speeds is fairly loud, but since we use this speed as "white noise" at night, we do not find this to be a problem. The medium speed, which we run through the day, still moves enough air to keep the dust down, but is quiet enough to not notice the sound. I don't run the ionizer, which seems unnecessary to me anyway, since it has HEPA filtration. There is also a small LED "nightlight" that can be switched on while the unit is running.
The washable pre-filter is open cell foam and the main filter is a fabric HEPA with a rubber gasket. If you need something to reduce odors, what I did was replace the pre-filter with the activated charcoal filter that most air cleaners use as pre-filters. I bought a universal Honeywell pre-filter at Target (the same one I used for my Honeywell 10500? that this unit replaced) and just cut out the size I needed using the foam filter as a template. It seems to work better at reducing pet odor, and dander. When dirty, it can be disposed of and replaced with another one cut from the universal pre-filter (I figure I will get about 8 from it -for around $10). I don't know if this substitution will affect the warranty, but it doesn't seem to make the blower work any harder.
I replaced a larger Honeywell air cleaner with this unit, which is actually undersized for my room by about a third, and haven't noticed any increase in dust, odors or anything else. My last Honeywell ran almost continuously for just over three years before the blower started rattling. If I get half that for this unit at just under a third of the price, I'll be happy.
One suggestion of vacuuming out the filter: Unless your vacuum has HEPA filtration, you should probably vacuum out the filter in a different location than where the unit is being used, otherwise you will just remove the stuff that the HEPA filter caught and blow it back into the room through the vacuum.
Customer Review: Honeywell HHT-011... A good buy. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great little air cleaner. It is intended for use of one medium to large room. It is Not effective for the whole house. The compact size and design allows for this unit to fit on a desktop or dresser.
My wife and I both smoke, and it helps to keep the room clear of the lingering stink from cigarettes. It doesn't eliminate the odors as quickly as I'd like, but after returning home after being away for an hour or so, there is no hint of stale smoke in the house.
I bought a second one for the bedroom. She likes the gentle 'whizz' sound from the fan to help her Tinnitus(the ringing, buzzing, crackling, or hissing sound heard inside one or both ears).
It has also helped eliminate the morning time stuffy nose and watering eyes that we both frequently experienced. We wake up breathing better and more rested.
The cleaner has a 3 speed fan with a separate switch for the ionizer. We keep the ionizer on all the time, and the fan speed on Medium setting most of the time during the day. Low is good during sleeping, and High during periods of cooking or when we need a little boost of cleaner air.
Some have complained about the noise of the fan. It really isn't very noticeable after several minutes of use on the Low and Medium settings. It kinda blends into the surroundings and completely out of mind.
It has a pre-filter . . . A cleanable foam filter to catch larger contaminants.
It has a HEPA filter ... A cleanable filter to catch smallest of contaminants and allergens.
It has a Ionizer . . . An electronic device to trap airborne particles and more efficiently clean the air.
This is an excellent choice if you need an air cleaner for a single room, or a couple of smaller adjacent rooms, especially considering it has a permanent(cleanable) HEPA filter as opposed to the type that have to be replaced a couple times a year. [NOTE]: Do Not wet wash the HEPA filter. It should be vacuumed clean or use pressurized air to back-blow the trapped material away from the filter.
Customer Review: Great purchase - want to get one for each room in the house! Summary: 5 Stars
For the price, this Honeywell air purifier was a fantastic deal for me. I have terrible allergies and I often wake up with my eyes crusted over, my nose congested, and my throat raw. The morning after I started up this baby, I had no gunky eyes, no congestion, and my throat felt great. I just got out of bed and I felt "clean" - no longer burdened by allergies (of course, once I left my room that all changed).
Maintenance
Other reviewers noted that this is a "HEPA-type" filter, not a true HEPA filter, but it seemed to work for me just fine. And I LOVE that there is no replacement filters to hunt for or any other parts to deal with. One small complaint is that the power cord is relatively short for my room, but an extension cord did the trick. For set-up, I just took off the plastic, plugged in the machine, and it worked. Best of all, it's lightweight and compact, so I can put it anywhere.
Noise
One issue I have is that the noise from the purifier's fan can be distracting. Funny enough, I actually find the highest setting (of three) to be the most tolerable noise-wise. Unlike the lower two levels, I feel the sound at the top mode is more constant and blends into white noise, to the point that I barely notice it anymore.
Smell
Odor is a final point for me. The smell is not unbearable and it is diluted as it moves through the room, but especially if I'm close to the fan, I notice an odd fragrance, perhaps like a hospital. This odor becomes even more distinct if you turn on the ionizer. Maybe some people like air to smell this way? Personally, I keep the purifier a comfortable distance from me and I'm fine.
Conclusion
As an allergy sufferer, I felt like buying this was money well spent (it's actually humming away as I type this). Perhaps there are other purifiers that have more bells & whistles, but for my purposes, this one was perfectly sufficient. Overall, I'm satisfied.
Customer Review: Tabletop - I Got a Good One Summary: 5 Stars
Everything perfect - excellent service, excellent product.
I use it with the ionizer on, and makes a big difference in my allergies and sinus drainage, clears up the mucous stuck in my throat, no more clearing my throat constantly.
I have it near me in a big living room, about six feet away (bought it to suck up my cigarette smoke, chain-smoker, tired of washing and painting walls from brown cig tar), and it freshens the area where I am just fine. Plus the wonderful surprise added effect of making me feel better.
My son said the ionizer freshens the air like rainfall does, and sure enough it feels fresh like that, it lifts my spirits.
Be sure to read the instructions thoroughly, and take the plastic wrap off the pre-filter on the inside front.
When putting the front panel back on afterward, it took several several tries to get it to latch right, but finally got it on.
The sound, whether on low or medium, is like a box fan set on low, sounds just like a fan, which is soothing white noise to me.
I keep it set on low, and freshens the area by me wonderfully, love it.
A few days after son talked me into using the ionizer feature, for just a few seconds I did hear it make a few crackling noises, then immediately after, one LOUD pop. After that few seconds episode that one day, it has been fine ever since, luckily.
Mine doesn't rattle or vibrate or travel across the bare wood table, stays put.
It does make the air around the area cooler, will feel good in summer, since I don't have air conditioning.
From the reviews I read here before buying, I bought mine from Amazon since they have a good exchange and return policy.
So if you happen to get a bad one, like some reviewers did, send it back and try for a good one.
I highly recommend this tabletop air purifier.
