Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HWM450 Quick Steam Warm Moisture HumidifierCustomer Review: Moisture humidifier Summary: 5 Stars
Works great aside from the fact that the minerals build up even in one 6 hour period. Very time consuming to scrape mineral buildup off heating plate at least in El Paso TX. Solution buy 4 5gal bottles from Walmart $7 each and go to water machine for $1 per bottle and use purified water by reverse osmosis which removes all minerals from the water siphon into tank. Only viable solution I could come up with. My first one died within 3 weeks, maybe from this condition, don't know. Amazon promply sent another and in addition I purchased a used one for another area of the house. It helps with respiratory problems Doctor recommeded due to wife's illness. Helps keep thermostat down as moist air feels much warmer than dry air so saves on heating costs. In New Hampshire where I came from it was very important due to extreme cold and dry conditions. Very nicely priced unit cost much more as I searched other areas on the web.
Customer Review: So much more for the money! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Honeywell 2 gallon warm mist first. After 3 months the machine stopped working. I was cleaning it somewhat routinely. The Honeywell 2 gallon was $20 less. However, it has 2 settings, high - low, and runs continuously, leaving you to fill the tank every 12 hours (on low).
The Honeywell HWM450 is a digital machine, COMES WITH A BOX OF FILTERS (don't buy them). It has a humidity control setting, timer, three levels of output, and a light when the filter needs changing.
The filters alone, along with the much bigger tank justify the $20.
I tossed the $30 Honeywell, and have been using the new one a couple of weeks...the difference has been dramatic. Having bad sinus issues and post nasal drip (living in a very, very dry climate), I don't what a buyer could want for the money.
I read the other reviews...and the negative reviews, I agree to disagree.
Customer Review: A workhorse Summary: 5 Stars
I have three of these. One in the music room, one in the bedroom, and one in the family room. They have all worked tirelessly and faithfully for over three years. There is one idiosyncrasy which may have caused others to have problems. When you replace the water in the tank and return it to the unit, you must power it off and back on and reset the desired humidity level. Otherwise, even though it is powered on, it will not re-activate and eventually, in dry weather, the display will read 20 -- it's lowest reading. This "feature" is not documented, but it is not a malfunction. In fact, I find the humidistat to be extremely accurate and very sensitive. There is mineral build-up, of course. Most of it falls right off during cleaning. Some does stick to the heating plate. I have tried other humidifiers in this price range, and none have performed as well as this one. I highly recommend this product.
Customer Review: Solid product, some maintenance is required Summary: 5 Stars
This product, as do all "room" humidifiers require user cleaning and service on a daily as well as weekly schedule. If you can not commit to this requirement save up your money and have a whole house unit installed on your HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning). This steam type humidifier will not require that you use distilled water and in turn will not discharge white mineral dust. You do need to replace the inexpensive filter pads and clean the mineral build up on the heating element. The once a week cleaning routine is simple and easy requiring a white vinegar soak for 20 min. The unit is quiet and effective at raising the humidity in our 350 sq/ft bedroom to a comfortable 55%. No matter what type or brand you choose I think it is important that the unit selected has a digital humidity indicator and setting for accuracy. This unit has both as well as a timer and three output settings.
Customer Review: Works fine for us! Summary: 5 Stars
Our house has forced hot air heat and a humidifier in the heating system. In the coldest, dryest part of winter the builtin humidifier is not enough when the dew point outside is in single digits.
Last winter I bought 2 of these units and put them in 2 bedrooms. On the coldest, dryest nights I fill both before bed and turn them on. They really help, particularly if someone has a winter cold. At the end of the winter season I clean them, put them back in the boxes they were delivered in, and store them in the basement.
Last week was cold and dry so I got them out, filled them and turned them on. Today I bought a third one for our third bedroom, where our 4 year old grandson sleeps when he stays with us. I think it will help his morning cough.
Ours have worked fine for us!
