I wanted a programmable for a long time, and moving to a new house was just the push I needed. Installation took me less than an hour, even at my relaxed pace. Operation is simpler than older (>4 years) models I've seen.
Not sure if this is clear in the specs here, but you get 4 "phases" per day. WAKE, LEAVE, RETURN, NIGHT (I made those names up but you get the idea). Also the way these things work is if you set WAKE at 7 AM to be 70F, then the unit will do what it takes to make it 70F by 7 AM, so it starts maybe 15 minutes before the time setpoint and it learns how long it took and adapts.

The screen is easy to see and I like how the set tempurature and the actual room temperature are displayed at the same time on the same screen. I really like the 24 volt hardwired feature which gives you the option to wire the 24V transformer in your furnace to your thermostat therefore using the batteries as back-up power only (in case of power outage). The batteries can be replaced from an easy to open side door so you don't have to take the whole thermostat off the wall to replace the batteries as with some other electronic thermostat's.Customer Review: Great product and price!

I did quite a bit of research on programable thermostats to replace the "dumb" thermostats in our (NEW CONSTRUCTION!) home. One of them controls a heat pump and I wanted a thermostat intelligent enough to ramp up to the set-point without using resistance heat. This one had about the best price on the Web and works great. I bought a similar looking thermostat to control a gas furnace/AC. The instruction card insert is very handy (particularly for my husband who is less skilled in this regard).Customer Review: Consumer Reports Correctly Rated This Excellent!

I consult Consumer Reports on any major purchase and electronics. They have a strong track record with me. I bought this thermostat after reading their report. It performs flawlessly. As other reviews said, there is a 3 degree "dead zone" between heat and cool if you use the "Auto Changeover" setting (which I use). It does not impact my comfort at all. If you prefer the manual change over from heat to cool, the 3 degree does not apply. Highly recommend this item.Customer Review: What I was looking for

The product was as described. I like the room temp as well as the desired temp being displayed. I especially like the automatic change over for each season. This unit seems very easy to program. Takes easy to find AA batteries.
