Tools and Hardware Reviews of Window FanCustomer Review: not your fathers window fan... Summary: 3 Stars
I owned this exact fan back in new york about 10 years ago. Hands down best fan ever, cant beat it, lasted until i moved to Fl. Took as little as i could on the move and gave away. searched online and OMG there it was the exact same wonderful fan i wish i never got rid of. Ordered it instantly...
But when i got it, although it looks identical, it is not anywhere near the quality of my old fan, which in a picture you could not tell the difference. But while this fan works great, I know it will not last long. The new fan is very light weight plastic, everything was now done on the cheap, the controls, the side slide outs, the fan blades. Everything is very thin light weight plastic and cheap and does not have the power of old fan or the option to NOT use in a window like the old one(came with snap on feet, not this one).
While yes this is still by far the best fan out there because of its options... I just hope i dont have to replace every few years.....
Cant beat the independent options, each fan is independent of the other and you can switch intake to exhaust without turning the fan around, i put it in the window and leave it all winter in fl.
STILL GREAT FAN.....
Customer Review: Stopped working after three weeks Summary: 3 Stars
I bought two of these units three weeks ago. One of them started having a problem with the right fan, making noise. The left fan was nice and quiet. I ignored the noise until one day I finally shut off the right fan. A few days later, I turned it back on and it completely seized up. When wind passed through it, it helped to kick start it, but I knew something was wrong with it. I left it off again for a while, turned it back on and it wouldnt start, but made an AC humming noise. I didnt want to risk a fire, so I just took the whole unit out of the window and threw it away. I already threw away the box when I first got it, so I couldn't return it for an exchange or a refund. Im not saying they are bad fans, just hit and miss, I guess. Buy at your own risk. The other unit I bought is still working great. Keep the box in case you find that it doesnt work after a few weeks. Im going to order this same honeywell unit as a replacement. Maybe I will go with the more expensive one. Higher quality, maybe? I cant tell the difference between this one and the higher priced one.
Customer Review: A gooe fan but not enough power for air evacuation.... Summary: 3 Stars
This a well built fan, the controls are excellent, and the feature of being able to remove the grill to clean it is INSPIRED! A can't-do-without feature. But it's a underpowered as an exhaust fan. But you could pay a lot more for another fan that wouldn't be much better then this one.
I bought this fan because I smoke cigars, and wanted something to exhaust tobacco smoke out of the room. This might work for a small bedroom. The lack of ratings on wattage and air evacution in these window fans makes it difficult for the consumer to evaluate.
I'm not unhappy or don't think I'm cheated, because for the price, you can't beat this fan. But if for air evacuation of a medium to large room, look elsewhere.
Customer Review: It Doesn't Fit the Window Summary: 3 Stars
While I like the fan for it's intended purpose, when you fit it into the window, there is a sizable gap left on top of the pullout sides. That means that you have to add tape or insulation to fill the gap.
You would think the company would provide a piece of insulation which would make the top weathertight, but they don't.
Customer Review: wish list Summary: 3 Stars
So far this fan is a big help in the kitchen. For the bedroom I'd like to find a different fan that is much quieter, and that could be set at a much lower airflow.
The side panel locks are hard to set from the inside the house--seems like a strange design, particularly for an upper floor window.
