Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hoover Fold Away Upright Vacuum with Fold Down Handle, BaglessCustomer Review: Poor quality, lots of hassel Summary: 2 Stars
I got this when I moved into my new house in 2003. I was happy with it for a little while, but then it lost most of it's suction. It worked properly for less than a year.
I can still use it, but the posture necessary to make it work is very uncomfortable. It seems the suction is being lost through the area around the handle for the collection bucket. If I bend to hold my hand over this area while vacuuming, then it still works ok.
At the time I bought this, it was a new item and had several great reviews. Now I see that the low rating reviews here are complaining of similar issues as the problems I've had.
I eventually got a very old used dirt devil that works much better than this item. I suggest that you don't waste your money on this machine.
Customer Review: Huge dissapointment Summary: 1 Stars
We purchased this Hoover to replace a 14 year old, very worn out, canister. We should have kept the old machine. The only promise this Hoover fulfills is that it folds for storage. It does a marginal job on carpet and is absolutely useless on hard surface floors. If you should vacuum your hard surface floors in your bare feet be warned - you will feel the dirt hit your feet as the brushes scoot it under the vacuum. As there is no way to disengage the brushes all you do is spread the dirt around.
The filter clogs quickly and does not just 'tap' clean as advertised. I've taken to blowing mine out with compressed air regularly. The wand is only 2' long and the hose has trouble stretching past 4' - might be good if you're carrying the machine while vacuuming stairs, but using the attachments to get under furniture (this machine does not lie flat so it has trouble getting under anything lower than the dining room table) or along the walls (edge cleaning is nonexistent) then get ready for a backache.
I would recommend that you pass this machine by and get anything else. As for me, I doubt we will ever consider another Hoover product.
Customer Review: Messy, Weak, Cheaply Made Summary: 1 Stars
My work replaced a commercial vacuum with this junker. Pickup has always been weak (even when it was new). Emptying is an inconvenient mess. (Removing the dust cup usually gets dust all over.) Product looks and feels like a toy.
Get a model that uses a disposable bag instead. Stay far away from this bagless junk, unless you enjoy choking on dust when it comes time to empty it.
UPDATE: Even though this unit was only about 3 years old and was only used once a week to clean an area that is not real big, it just completely died. No power at all. There was a burning smell coming from the power switch, as well as noises that sounded like sparks arcing. What a piece of crap.
Customer Review: Extremely poor product Summary: 1 Stars
I've had this vacuum about a year and it is a very poor performer. The filter gets filled with dusts right away-- I mean, within one cleaning, the vacuum is already sucking for air and losing performance. The dirt canister is small-- my house is 2000 square feet and I can't vacuum the whole house without emptying the "cup" at least once. And the replacement filters are expensive and not washable (what a surprise).
It's cheap, but you get what you pay for in this case. Not good for wood floors or tile, either because it kicks up dust and little things from the hardwood or tile floors.
