Description of Household Essentials 3407 Triple-Bag Laundry Hamper
This WHITNEY DESIGN #3407 triple laundry sorter features a strong but lightweight PVC tubular frame. When full, this sorter can hold up to six loads of laundry. It features three removable mesh bags that secure to hooks on the PVC frame with drawcords. The bags are machine washable if they become soiled. Each bag can hold up to 2 loads of laundry. The PVC frame has a mesh bottom insert that keeps loaded bags from touching the floor. Assembly of the frame can be done in minutes. Four casters allow the sorter to move easily across the floor. I purchased this to replace one that we had bought almost 20 years ago, and was finally falling apart. Since I didn't need to move it very often, I didn't think other people's issues with it coming part would be a big deal, and I could always use PVC glue if necessary.
After putting it together, and using it for quite awhile (I've had it for almost a year, I think), I couldn't quite figure out why people were saying that it was flimsy and fell apart. Mine was quite sturdy, held the bags well, has never fallen apart, or had the "hook bars" roll. I figured that they must be really rough with theirs.
But I think the mystery was solved when I was in Walmart recently, and walked by a shelf display of these, and one of the boxes had fallen apart so the PVC tubes had fallen out into the aisle. I picked them up to get them out of the aisle, and noticed that these were clearly lesser quality than the one I got from Amazon (tubes were made of thinner PVC, for example). At least one reviewer has said they got theirs from Walmart, and I'm wondering how many of the others did as well.
