No grease on the one I received and it holds a LOT of laundry. As we only have a small concrete patio and couldn't set the sleeve into the ground, my husband sawed off about 12" from the metal pole, we popped it into a heavy-duty umbrella stand, and were good to go. This is a great product, I live in North Texas and we get really stong winds and this product stands up great to it. I can put up 2-3 loads of clothes with no problem, sheets and blankets go up great. The turning of the umbrella makes the clothes dry even faster. I love this Clothes Line, and it's very well made.. I have a small yard and it's perfect for me. I like the way it rotates with the slightest breeze. My clothes seem to dry really fast. I'm very pleased with the umbrella clothesline I bought. It was in perfect condition when it arrived. All we did after it was set up was to wash it down to make sure all the lubricate was off the poles.That wasn't hard to do. I have used this type of clothesline for almost 40 years. I purchased this item as a gift for my daughter.
All though the box was in rough shape when I received it, I was very pleased with the quality of the item.
My daughter can't wait till spring to start using it.
