Tools and Hardware Reviews of Boveda One-Step Calibration KitCustomer Review: Works better than salt method Summary: 5 Stars
I tried both the salt method (search calibrating a hygrometer) and the Boveda One-Step method and found my calibrated HydroSet II hygrometer reading 1% off in the salt calibrating environment but right on 75% when returned to the Boveda enclosure. I suspect to get it exact with salt method it may be necessary to use distilled water and non-iodized salt. I have two other hygrometers that do not adjust. One reads about 10% low and the other about 10% high - neither very useful to help me determine when to run my dehumidifier. The HydroSet II works and helps me get a benchmark in the salt environment with the other two (they are too large to fit the Boveda enclosure) to use as cross check for when to recalibrate this one. So, if you are concerned about accuracy the lab certified Boveda One-Step method seems better than the salt method.
Customer Review: Simple and Accurate Summary: 5 Stars
You could just mix up a batch of salt and distilled water and test your Hygrometer via any of the internet sites that have instructions, but WHY?
This product is simple, accurate, and idiot proof.
Just plop your Hygrometer into the zip-lock bag, leave for a day, (adjust and retest if you can) and away you go! Good for up to 3 months, so you can test as many Hygrometers as you want to with one kit.
Boveda is a time-tested brand. Museums have used their kits to calibrate equipment.
Really you can't go wrong here. Highly Recommended.
The seller was timely and almost perfect (they forgot the key to my humidor)
Customer Review: works perfectly Summary: 5 Stars
This product worked just as advertised. Put the hygrometer in the bag, close it (zip-lock type bag), and let it sit for 36 hours and the calibration will be complete. I bought the Caliber III digital hygrometer and when I checked it at the 24 hour point, it read precisely the 75% humidity that this bag produces. I let it sit in the bag for the remainder of the "36 hour" time period, but nothing changed, it still read 75% humidity. That's a testament to both the calibration pack/bag, and the hygrometer.
Customer Review: Awesome Little Bit Of Science Summary: 5 Stars
We bought calibration bag with an analog hydrometer and it did exactly what it said it would do. It takes 48 hours to be accurate, but we could see that our hydrometer was off by a few percentage points. Not a big deal for us, as we're just trying to keep mold out of our house, but if you're storing cigars, this would be a necessity. Plus, if I am remembering correctly, it's good for a couple of years. It's inexpensive and it does exactly what it says it will do!
Customer Review: Made calibrating my digital gauges EASY. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these kits to calibrate the two HygroSet IIs I bought. Made calibration easy. If you buy a digital Hygrometer, spend the couple extra bucks to buy the calibration kit. I also used the kit to prove to myself how poor the analog gauges I replaced were (even after I calibrated them).
