Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hunter 33222 Care-Free 2.2-gallon HumidifierPlus with Exclusive NiteGlo Night LightCustomer Review: Lots of humidity, but noisy & drippy Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this for wintertime use. I was looking for a unit with good capacity and the power to quickly add moisture to very dry, heated air, and that did not require filter replacement. I do have experience using humidifiers. On the plus side, this unit puts out a lot of moisture, without "wetting" surfaces. It is easy to see how much water is in the unit, and it can run pretty much all day once filled. I also found it easy to take apart and appreciate that it can be cleaned thoroughly -- which is a must for humidifiers!
The main "con" for this unit is that it is unpleasantly loud, with a bit of a high-pitched whine. Most of the year, I sleep with a large air filter running, so I have a pretty high noise threshold. Even so, I could not sleep with this humidifier going, which was disappointing, as I had primarily wanted it for nighttime use.
The other issue is that getting the tank into position almost always leads to some water drippage (the tank has to be upended from its filling position) - one would think that some kind of "lock" mechanism could be employed to reduce dripping from the valve until the tank is locked into place.
Customer Review: Its great when its working properly Summary: 3 Stars
I'm on my 4th one for this humidifier (I have the one w/o the night light)
LIKES
1) no filter to replace
2) relatively easy cleaning (just soak in vinegar/water and brush)
3) quiet enough for me to sleep on LOW
4) large 2.5 container so dont need to refill frequently
5) it works! i sleep better, and my hygrometer proves it
DISLIKES
1) it breaks down and stops working or leaks, or gurgles after 1 or 2 months
2) gets to be noisy when on MED (specially on HIGH)
Customer Review: Not all bad Summary: 3 Stars
I just bought 2 of these humidifers and while the workmanship could be improved the units do the job. Our headaches and dry skin problems are gone. The noise factor on low is very good and of course as you increase the fan speed the noise level goes up but not enought to drive you crazy. WalMart had the units for less than $40.00. Amazon wants almost $60.00 and I found these units selling for as high as 75.00.
Customer Review: Noisy! Summary: 3 Stars
This unit functions fine as a humidifier, but it is anything but "whisper quiet" as the manufacturer claims. Not only is the fan itself rather loud even on the lowest setting, but there is a distinct rattle produced by something in the unit which echos loudly through the house at night. I can easily hear it from any room in my 1000 sq. ft. house, even over light ambient noise like the TV or furnace blower.
Customer Review: One star per year of usability Summary: 2 Stars
This humidifier was really great at first. Did what it was supposed to. Did not need a lot of maintenance. Held a lot of water. Was relatively quiet.
The manufacturer does not suggest a whole lot of maintenance- it IS advertised as low maintenance. So I just followed their instructions.
I was beginning to use it for the third straight year, but I am going to have to replace it. It is grimy and moldy inside, up where you can't really get to it. It is moldy and dirty right at the main air exit at the top. You can't get to that. You could try, but then you would find, after just two years of use, as another reviewer noted, the screws are well rusted and will not budge. There will be no opening and cleaning of the insides of the humidifier. The base gets grimy pretty quickly, even though I have been rinsing it every few days. Also, it's not so quiet anymore. Squeaks or hums (higher pitch) some. High setting woke me up on more than one occasion. Sounds like being on a jet plane. Literally.
To respond to some people who loved the humidifer and are annoyed with anybody who didn't, here's the thing. Not everybody is a humidifier expert. You should not have to be a Certified Humidifier Operator (like some of you, apparently) to get good results. And you should base your review of a product not just on its doing what you want it to do the way you want to do it, but based on the manufacturer's claims and instructions, however effective *your* methods may be. This product's performance, compared against the manufacturer's claims and instructions, doesn't measure up. Period.
Check out their website. They are selling a new & improved version, and no longer this model.
