Customer Review: Good compared to other filterless's I've had
Summary: 4 Stars

This one is pretty good compared to a few other's I've had. Other ones have pumps and tubes that do get clogged or the pump just quits. My house is about 1000 sq ft. I heat the house mainly with only a pellet stove so it gets dry. I keep the humidifier downstairs so I really can't compare the noise for sleeping. When it's running and I am downstairs around it, it does not bother me - only sounds like when your forced hot air comes on.

I have radiators (forced hot water - not steam) that I rarely no longer use due to the increased cost of oil and it gets dry with either the pellet stove or using the radiators. Because of the pellet stove, I had to put a register in the floor upstairs to get the heat up there (and I placed a fan between the ceiling and floor). Because of this, it gets the humidity upstairs as well and adequately. I have a humidistat both down and upstairs and they are both relatively at the same level. I guess it could also be how your house is setup is how well the humidity will get around. If at all it is too dry upstairs (and it is rare), I just (rarely) use a Vick's Vaporizor when sleeping and this takes care of it (I got it for like 11 bucks at CVS). I can't really use a whole house humifier as I don't have duct work or forced hot air.

The calcium and builup is not a problem. Use the additives like Bemis (or others) like a previous reviewer said and it does do the trick. Distilled water works very well too. Like someone said, bottles can get expensive so if you can afford it, get a distiller (it's worth it). If I ever buy another house or build, the best heat you can put in is Steam. You don't have to worry about this dry crap. It is absolutely the best form of heat, heats really well, and gives you all the humidity you need. Even though my last place was 200 years old, I was never cold and never had to worry about this dryness... So what if you have to hear some hissing and popping from the radiators. I think it's kinda cool - lol.

Customer Review: I like it!

PRO's
I live in Colorado. There's very little humidity. Very itchy and dry. This unit works well in a small room. It helps my sinus problem. There's less staticHunter 34257 Carefree Humidifier Ultra With 2.5-Gallon Output in the air. I've got 2 Maltese dogs with long fur. When brushing, etc, you can hear the static pop which can damage their coat. I normally use an anti static spray to eliminate this problem. I've noticed since I've been using the Hunter 34257, I don't need the spray. Also, my skin is loving it! Some complain that it's too tall. It's a tower guys. It could be a slimmer, but if you have the room ...go for it. I'm satisfied.Hunter 34257 Carefree Humidifier Ultra With 2.5-Gallon Output

Cons:
Calcium deposits makes it hard to clean. Anyone buying this unit, beware, and clean often to help control the deposits. It's kinda noisy (which I like)helps me sleep, but may be a turn off for some.

Customer Review: Good Humidifier.
Summary: 4 Stars

I have owned a Hunter humidifier for over 4 years. I had tried several other humidifiers that I disliked until I stumbled on the Hunter Care Free. My old model started to randomly leak, so I was looking for a replacement. I hesitated to order this model, since it had gotten some bad reviews.
Well, I been using this unit for about 3 weeks now and I'm very satisfied. I took it apart for cleaning after a week of heavy usage. There was minimal white buildup on the parts. I never had a buildup problem with the old unit either.
It does make more noise than my other unit, but still not bad. Hunter has added an overflow container at the base of the unit with a little window for monitoring. It has not had any overflow so far.
The only negative I had found is that it has to run more than my previous unit to maintain a comfortable humidity level.

Customer Review: OK so far

I just got the humidifier today, so I can't comment on most aspects of its operation. One design aspect that I don't like is the location of the humidistat and controls (on the top). I knew the location before buying it, and knew in advance that I wouldn't like the location, so I can't complain much. But if anybody from Hunter is listening, consider placing the controls on the side towards the bottom if that's feasible.
My first choice for humidifier placement was on a breakfast bar separating the kitchen from the dining area. That was near the filtered water source, and the maximum distance from the bedroom to minimize the noise while in bed. The only problem with that location was that I would need a ladder to see the humidistat reading. The humidistat location demands that the unit be placed on or near the floor

Customer Review: Good for smaller rooms
Summary: 3 Stars

This is my first humidifier and I've had it just for 2 months. I was just surprised by three things. (1) I only run it in the evenings and have found it is only sufficient for my 12x14 ft bedroom. (2) In the beginning, I though it was very quite, but when I did move it to the bedroom, I noticed that its fan has a humming noise (I guess normal for humidifiers). Moreover, it guts out huge bubbles in its water tank after every 20-25 minutes which can startle a light sleeper like myself. (3) The only thing I do not like is, it doesn't shut off when its out of water, the fan keep running.
