I bought this fully programmable thermostat at Lowes to replace a White-Rodgers model. I chose it because I wanted 7 day programmable with auto switch between heat and cool, and large display; and it cost about 1/3 less ($67 vs $99) than the comparable honeywell. The old White-Rodgers was programmable but not by day, and the display was a bit hard to read.
Installation was a breeze (we have basic gas furnace, central air...no heat pump to contend with). I even got lucky and was able to use the same wall anchors from the old unit to attach this one to the wall. It didn't work at first. After a few minutes of playing in the menu I realized the unit had to be turned on through the menu. It worked fine after that.
Programming was a bit challenging, but I think with the feature set, 7 day programmable, 4 programs per day, heating, cooling, ventilation mode, one should expect a bit of a learning curve. I would expect this of any brand with comparable features. The instructions for programming cover several pages, which had me flipping back and forth through the manual. It would be nice to have a 1 page cheat sheet. I eventually made my own, and after 3-4 attempts got it programmed the way I wanted. It takes a bit of practice, but as I said I think that's only realistic to expect. Only 4 stars because I think they could re-structure the manual a bit.
I love the big display, although I'm not typically a big fan of touch screens because you're forever having to clean them. All in all a great value; which I would highly recommend. Hunter makes a comparable model that's about $10 without touch screen.
