I needed to run an ethernet cable from a modem located in a bedroom in the back of my house to my living room so I could connect a new Sony Bravia HDTV to the internet. While I could have used a store bought ethernet cable it would have required me to drill an enormous hole through the floors of both rooms to accomodate the plug at both ends of the cable. Wishing to avoid marring nice hardwood floors, I--without any prior experience with this kind of thing--decided to make my own patch cable. With a little help from internet tutorials and this item, I was able to get the job done. The crimper stripped the sheathing off the cable perfectly and crimped the plugs onto the cable ends with little effort.
