Customer Review: Great product idea, but not well designed

I bought this timer to power on my espresso machine in the mornings before I get up. The features were wonderful--I could set it to come on early for M-F when I go to work, and later on the weekends. I noticed immediately that the unit tended to be hot to the touch. After working great for about 5 months, it just stopped working one day. I am now on my second unit and I expect it will fail eventually.
Intermatic has been plagued by these problems with other digital timers. I had the same problem with an in-wall timer for my porch lights. I had to keep replacing it every six months or so until they re-designed the product and now I have one that works great. I complained about my first in-wall timer and they actually sent me the newly designed timer for free a year later when it came out. It even came with an apology letter basically saying how embarassed they were by the product. I recommend you complain about this product if you have a problem with it. It will expedite them re-designing the unit, and they may even send you the new timer when it comes out.

complicated to program but has many on/off options. by day/by week/by 5 day + 2 day(weekends)/14 programs, self numembered from 1 to #14/random & easy overide with self re-set overide if not turned off. if turned off resumes programming at next schelugeled on & off times. batterey backup for maintaining preset programming. batteries will not power appliance- it maintains timer presets. has handled a thermostat regulated 120v 60Hz 12.5amp 1500watt space heater/on 12/off 12 hrs. per day for 3 months with no signs of overheating or malfunction @ an ambient temperature of 60 to 80 degrees farenheit-60 to 80% humidity-with a very low insect population. programming was a chore but flexibility of timer in options is good. I use it to power a electric heater to keep my walk in closet heated before/after i go/come home from work. Customer Review: Love the features, hate the performance

I bought one of these and it lasted about a year so I took it apart and found that it had a bad soulder conection so I fixed it and lasted one more year then would no longer switch on devices, so I took apart agan, found that a diode went bad, very poorly desined power supply there is a resistor that gets overly hot. Now I've power it with a transformer and so far so good. Please note this is the only digital timer with 14 on off settings and that has battery back up, that I could find.Customer Review: Unbelievable

4 months - that's exactly how long it took for my unit to stop powering its attached device. The digital screen still works great, but it powers nothing. Unbelievable. The piece of crap is coming soon to a dumpster near you! Don't buy this, seriously. Look at all the negative reviews here. Obviously Intermatic isn't too concerned with customer satisfaction.
