Tools and Hardware Reviews of Intermatic EJ500C Flush Mount Programmable 24 Hour TimerCustomer Review: easy set-up works as described Summary: 5 StarsThis product is as described works fine with an easy set-up instructions not even needed..
Customer Review: So far, So good! Summary: 5 StarsThe installation was simple enough and the programming was easier than expected. The product works precisely as described and I have had no problems with it. One of my favorite features is the internal battery that retains the time so it does not have to be reprogrammed every time the power goes out. I have only had it 2 months but so far so good.
One of the cons in my book is having to find the correct wall plate for this thing to fit in. I think the type is called decora and they aren't as plentiful as one would like (I had to find a 3 switch + 1 decora in white and it was not easy).
Customer Review: Terrible to Program Summary: 3 StarsI ordered 2 and they arrived promptly. Installation was easy, just as any other switch. They work fine for manual use. Programming them for automatic operation is quite another matter. The instructions are in very tiny print, the screen is also very tiny and very hard to read, the instructions are long and complicated, and after two programming tries they still don't work automatically. I will have to get a magnifying glass to read the screen and I will copy over the instructions with a scanner and enlarge them. Maybe then they will work, but I am doubtful because I think they are programmed per the instructions.
Customer Review: Problems with small base bulbs Summary: 3 StarsI purchased this timer and within the first day it kept losing the time and turning the lights on. I was controlling only one overhead fixture on my front porch with incandescent bulbs (3 x 60w). I called Intermatic customer service and the technician (Bob) asked me about the type of lights. I explained what I had, but the minute I said that the bulbs were candelabra-base he stopped me and said, "Those small base bulbs will drive the timer crazy.". I didn't get all the technical stuff (something about a different kind of filament). I even asked if I'd missed something in the instructions. I made sure my wattage and type of bulb (incandescent) were covered. He admitted that the instructions were not complete. He said I should return the EJ500C and buy the ST01C, which would be fine with these type of bulbs. I'll give that a try.
Customer Review: Intermatic EJ500 Summary: 1 StarsThis unit worked fine with 6 outside lights. When I removed the 6 outside lights and installed 2 sets of 25 C9 Christmass lights, the switch got so hot you could not touch it. I removed it and reinstalled my manual switch.
