Tools and Hardware Reviews of Intermatic HA06C Indoor Wall Switch

Customer Review: Not as versatile as lamp dimmer but more convenient
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this switch to replace a floor lamp on a lamp dimmer that I had been using with my Logitech Harmony 890 so that anyone walking into the room could turn on the floor lamp without having to use the remote. Sounds simple, right? Wrong!

First, installation was easy: black wire to hot/feed/line; blue wire to load. This is great because it works in the two different methods for wiring a light or receptacle that is switched from one place. Due to the lack of a neutral connection, this dimmer leaks much more voltage than the plug-in lamp dimmers. This, to me, is a major downside and I wouldn't mind the option to connect a neutral to reduce this line leakage across the load.

Second, it is rated at a minimum of 40 watts and maximum of 300 watts. Great! I have a halogen lamp rated at 300 watts! Wrong again! First, lamp would not turn on. Checked function with a simple incandescent lamp, works great for dimming! So fine, i'll rip out the dimmer module in the floor lamp and it'll work. So that being said and done, the dimmer works but flickers the halogen lamp at a rate that can be noticed. Well, now i need to buy a different floor lamp - the most basic one i can find (30 dollars) without a dimmer. Finally, success but at the cost of a new lamp. Mind you, my halogen worked perfectly fine with the dimmer module installed on the wall-receptacle lamp dimmer module HA03C.

Finally, to squash some incorrect reviews, it CAN be included in scenes - works perfectly fine with other devices on my Harmony Remote. Second, of course it only controls the local light!!!! it's wired in the wall!!!!

I gave this four stars and not less only because it does do exactly as advertised: replaces a standard switch with the typical functions while still allowing the control from Z-wave controllers. Additionally the instructions aren't really clear so if you don't have previous experience with Z-wave devices, i wouldn't recommend this as a first.

It doesn't get 5 stars because it doesn't perform as well as the plug-in lamp dimmer modules for flexibility among lamps. Basically, make sure you have a very simple on-off incandescent lamp or ceiling fixture to be certain that it will work correctly.

Customer Review: Good basic z-wave dimmer
Summary: 4 Stars

Pros:

1) no neutral needed

2) low cost

3) as expected, works with other brands of controllers

Cons:

1) can't be part of scene

2) only 300 watt capacity

3) local rocker switch always controls local light (no way to decouple for external scene controller)

I also have some HA18C switches, which DO leak current, and make my CF lamps flicker.

I'd recomment this model for basic uses, but some other brand for situations where scene control are appropriate.

Customer Review: Also consider the HA18C
Summary: 4 Stars

The HA06 is great and was a snap to set up with my Harmony 890, but it was controlling a fluorescent light. In the off position most Z-Wave devices leak a bit of voltage (this is not unique to the HA06 nor does it affect normal lights) which causes fluorescent lights to flicker. The Intermatic Home Settings Three-Way In-Wall Switch #HA18C (search for B000WS4SIU) may be a better choice if you have compact fluorescents or other low wattage lighting installed.

Customer Review: Intermatic HA06C Home Settings Wireless Indoor Wall Switch
Summary: 4 Stars

Purchased 2 of these to control my living room high hat lights with my harmony 890pro. Installation was simple and adding them to the harmony was easy, was able to control all levels, dim and add to a scene for home theater movie viewing. I have not had any of the problems others have mentioned, these worked flawlessly. I would purchase again and would recommend to others.

Customer Review: works with schlage
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought these switches to go with my Schlage Link system. They work well with the system, with some limitations. They will not work as a dimmer for cfl bulbs, and have a hard time with 12volt lighting systems. Other than that, they work great.
