Customer Review: Intermatic Switches Break Down, Hard to Program

Please read the 1-star reviews to see that Intermatic has problems with the units breaking down after time. I'm about to order my 4th unit in 5 years, because my 3rd unit just stopped working after 2 years (which is longer than my previous ones lasted). It's particularly annoying that the unit has a "NoOp" message, basically telling you it's time to buy a new one. I've grown to hate seeing that message. I kind of hate this company for producing a product that fails so frequently, but I still may order another one because I haven't found another option. I will do a little more searching after I finish this review.
Also, these Intermatic switch timers are definitely not easy to program, and I can understand why some people never figure out how to set them up.
On the pro side, the auto settings that account for sunrise and sunset work well.

I installed 2 of these units for fixtures with CFL bulbs. The installation was extremely easy. when programming, follow the separate programming " cheat sheet" rather than the installation manual, it's a lot easier.
So far, I'm pleased with the product.

this ST01 timer is the one to use when you need to control devices plugged into a circuit other than simple incandescent lights. We have a transformer for outdoor lighting on the circuit and this is the timer that is compatible. Intermatic also makes a timer that looks almost the same called the EJ500. However, it should only be used for controlling incandescent lights, not other devices plugged into a circuit. Customer Review: Works w. CFL's but tricky to program

It's a shame you can't find these at a local Home Depot or Lowes for they are excellent to have. This unit eliminated the CFL flicker my old timer used to cause while my exterior CFL lights were off. I have 2 15W CFL bulbs on this unit. The battery back-up is excellent to have in the event of a power loss, especially since it has a somewhat difficult program setup. Programming the timer was a little tricky at first but I was able to figure it out eventually, just have A LOT of patience. The buttons are very small and close together which makes it even more tedious a task. You can program it to turn on at dusk and off at dawn every day or make up you own program for each day. It even corrects for daylight savings time. I have another timer switch made by Aube which trounces this timer in ease of programming but lacks the battery back-up. Overall, very pleased w. this timer and going to buy another one for my patio.Customer Review: One of the greatest products purchased for my home.

This electrical switch is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to provide automatic outdoor lighting for my house based on sunrise/sunset times. But, one of the biggest issues was that I wanted to use it with compact fluorescent bulbs and this is the only one I found that could. It is great for when I arrive home later then expected after sunset and the lights are on welcoming me home. Just set it once and forget it. It even has a daylight savings time feature available.
Truly one great product!
