Tools and Hardware Reviews of Intermatic ST01C White Self Adjusting Wall Switch TimerCustomer Review: Works w. CFL's but tricky to program Summary: 5 StarsIt's a shame you can't find these at a local Home Depot or Lowes for they are excellent to have. This unit eliminated the CFL flicker my old timer used to cause while my exterior CFL lights were off. I have 2 15W CFL bulbs on this unit. The battery back-up is excellent to have in the event of a power loss, especially since it has a somewhat difficult program setup. Programming the timer was a little tricky at first but I was able to figure it out eventually, just have A LOT of patience. The buttons are very small and close together which makes it even more tedious a task. You can program it to turn on at dusk and off at dawn every day or make up you own program for each day. It even corrects for daylight savings time. I have another timer switch made by Aube which trounces this timer in ease of programming but lacks the battery back-up. Overall, very pleased w. this timer and going to buy another one for my patio.
Customer Review: One of the greatest products purchased for my home. Summary: 5 StarsThis electrical switch is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to provide automatic outdoor lighting for my house based on sunrise/sunset times. But, one of the biggest issues was that I wanted to use it with compact fluorescent bulbs and this is the only one I found that could. It is great for when I arrive home later then expected after sunset and the lights are on welcoming me home. Just set it once and forget it. It even has a daylight savings time feature available.
Truly one great product!
Customer Review: Intermatic wall switch timer. Summary: 5 StarsThis was purchased to replace a much older model, whose internal relay finally began malfunctioning.
This newer model is closer to the wall (and somewhat harder to find in the dark). It includes dawn and dusk as times (which the older model did not). These two times vary by date. Don't yet know how accurate they are. They are set by entering sunrise and sunset times for the current date, and choosing an area of the USA by latitude (high, medium, low). Programming is straightforward.
The internal CR2 battery is not common, but we happen to use it for our garage door remotes.
Hookup is easy. The switch can be used as a single switch, or part of a three-way system.
Cons: none yet, unless you need designer colors on the switch.
Customer Review: Kills my CFL ballasts Summary: 1 StarsI bought and installed this timer for they advertised that it worked with CFL's. Well it did for awhile (3 months) and then the bulbs started to flicker for the timer could not handle the normal wear on the CFL ballast. It also would not turn the bulb off automatically.
I bought a Swylite Timer to replace this one and it has been working very well for over 14 weeks now. It also controls my LED bulbs (down to 1 watt) which this does not. Hopefully it will keep on working.......
Customer Review: Works well with fluorescent bulbs Summary: 5 StarsWe have been using these for 3 months only, but so far, so great. We bought 2 for the front and backyard lighting. My husband installed them without any difficulty. He's not a mechanic or engineer, or handy-kind of guy. The tricky part, as stated in previous reviews, was the programming part. I needed my 7-year old nephew to stand there with a flashlight because the display is tiny and not backlit. You may have to read the programming part 2 or 3 times before it actually makes sense when programming the dawn/dusk feature. Once programmed, it works wonderfully. It has a nice random mode that allows the unit to turn on/off at dusk/dawn in a random 20-minute changes so that it doesn't seem too routine that your lights go on/off at the same time every day. We've only had to program them once and haven't touched them since. They've brought us peace of mind because we no longer have to worry about leaving the lights on in daylight just so that we're not coming home to a dark home at night. Or leaving the lights on all day when we're not going to be home at all. Makes me wonder how we ever lived without it. One of the units arrived with a dead battery. Luckily, we had ordered two units because otherwise, we would have thought the first one was defective. Because of that, we had to make a special trip to the local KMart to get 2 new batteries to be safe. I emailed Amazon to reimburse us for the one dead battery. They responded quickly and kindly, without hesitation, credited my cc the $7 to replace it. Amazon, you are amazing. Keep up the good work and thank you for taking good care of your customers.
