Tools and Hardware Reviews of Malibu 3 Pack Solar Landscape Plastic Flood Light Set with Remote Panel, Textured Black #LZ413Customer Review: Great Accent Lights Summary: 5 Stars
These lights work great! They give off a surprising amount of light...nearly as much as the original Malibu 12-volt 4-watt spotlights which they replaced. You WILL need full, shade-free southern sunlight exposure for the solar panel but the 20 feet of wiring for each light allows some flexibility and the wires are simple to extend if you're a do-it-your-selfer.
Because our front yard faces north and gets a large amount of shade; I separated the solar panel from the circuit board/battery pack and mounted the solar panel on our south-facing roof. I ran a pair of wires down to the circuit board/battery pack which is mounted inside our garage. It was a pretty simple project and now we have "free" illumination of our front yard landscape from dusk to dawn.
We liked these lights so well, I bought a second set when they popped up as an Amazon Gold Box deal and now we have the second set installed in our backyard. It's a great feeling to have outdoor lighting all night long without the electric meter spinning away!
Customer Review: The best, for the price. Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered these, a set from Heartland America, and a set from Moonrays. The Malibus aren't real bright, but I intend to buy a couple more sets to fill in. The Mailibu's have long cords to each lamp that plug into the sensor. If a cord fails, you still have the other 2 lights. They have adapters to mount to rails, walls, or stick into the ground. The Moonrays are attached along a single, tiny cord. If the cord fails, and it quickly will, the whole system is trash. The lights are only about 3-5' apart. They can ONLY be stuck into the ground and cannot be mounted to a hard surface. They also, don't respond to customer "service". I can't honestly report on the Heartland America lights, as they were broken when I opened the box. I live in a rural area. Repacking and resending these items is more costly than what they are worth. This is the only recourse we have.
Customer Review: Outstanding! Summary: 5 Stars
These are fantastic solar powered lights. I have had them for about 6 weeks now and I've really put them through their paces. I bought 3 sets from Amazon and two sets at WalMart, and will be buying more. I have find some awesome uses for these lights. You can easily disassemble the light and pull out the LED and reflector for use as you wish (indoor lighting, etc.). The solar panel provides enough charge to burn all through lights (3 LEDs each) all night and they're still burning bright come morning. My kids even use these as night-lights in their rooms just for fun. I primarily use the lights for providing lights for security cameras and such. These are not your typical solar powered landscaping lights. I don't know why they are as good as they are (I'm sure it's not intentional) but why look a gift horse in the mouth.
Customer Review: Quality Set of Solar Summary: 5 Stars
These are not designed to light up a billboard, OK? But, they are quality made with the best solar panel I've seen yet. And this is my third set of solar landscape lights. I'm using this to light up my ground feeder so that I can see the nocturnal critters come in to feed. I'm just using one flood light, mounted about four feet off the ground. Just high enough so that the squirrels can't jump up to it in the daytime! It does a great job of lighting up a six foot diameter area, and the bunnies don't mind a bit! Installation was a snap. Oh, I let the batteries charge up a day and a half before turning the unit on. Thought this might increase the battery 'memory', and so far it has worked! Don't be afraid to buy these for small lighting projects. But, don't buy them for a flag up on a twenty foot pole, either.
Customer Review: Just what we needed Summary: 5 Stars
We have three sets of these lights and they perform flawlessly. Two sets provide accent lighting for dark corners of our backyard and the third set pleasantly lights a planting area near our front porch. They are brighter than solar lights and lanterns of years past and remain lit almost all night. Placement of the solar panel affects the amount of light emitted and length of time they stay on. We found that securing the solar panel to the top of a garden stake at fence height works very well in our backyard. In the front yard, the panel is staked at ground level. Both yards get 4-5 hours of sun at different times of the day and all the lights work well. They are easy to set up and turn on/off automatically at dusk and sunrise. And, they don't seem to attract bugs - what more could you ask for?
