Tools and Hardware Reviews of Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Residential Series 1300-Watt Garment Steamer

Customer Review: This Thing's Great
Summary: 5 Stars

Speed through ironing and remove all wrinkles in record time. A waste of money? You don't need an ironing board or an iron and you'll save a lot of time and will not damage your clothes. I bought this because ironing is tough to do unless you have a lot of patience and experience. No more shiny pants from too hot ironing. In fact it's fun to use.

Now my confession. I took a $2000 pair of drapes, and put them in the washer (cold cycle) and then the drier (for linens). Duh! I did it because they were yellow from smoke and if I was going to spend hundreds, I would spend another $2000 if the experiment didn't work. Hadn't had them cleaned in five years. The drapes were clean as a whistle, but wrinkled like a prune. The Jiffy Steamer dewringled them in 20 minutes flat after they were rehung.

The unit arrived with a broken caster. One phone call to customer service and a new one arrived in three days, and they didn't ask for the serial or model number.

Wait! There's more. I have a DeLonghi Steam Cleaner (I give it four stars), but I decided to use the garment steamer to remove grease from my George Foreman grill. That's because the garment cleaner head is hotter than hell on contact. It cleaned the grill fast! Encouraged, I used it to steam grease out of the oven. Worked fast! Then I used it to remove grease and old food from the rubber matts that line the sinks. Within a few seconds it actually boiled the residual water that lay in the sink! I took a tea bag and made tea with the boiled! OK. Now I'm lying.

Customer Review: Fantastic
Summary: 5 Stars

My clothing is mostly cotton, linen, silk, rayon, and untailored. Very little wool and no synthetics. I don't like pressed creases and like fabrics that are crinkled. When they're ironed, they don't look right. With this steamer I can take out the wrinkles and leave in the crinkles. As someone noted, it is fantastic for things I wouldn't have thought of ironing, like tee shirts. They look perfect in under a minute.

I also got the steamboard Jiffy 0892A Steamboard Vertical Garment Ironing Board and I'm hoping to be able to do my husband's shirts with that.

I find the best way to operate the machine, for the fabrics I have, is to open the garment and pass the steamer, facing me, from top to bottom on one side of the garment at a time, guiding the fabric above with my left hand.

Be careful because the hose gets hot; I have inadvertently touched it when repositioning my hand. I have gotten a couple of "oh, ouch" burns, and you should expect to when learning, but there is possibility for serious injury, namely: When steaming from the underside, especially pants and sleeves, be careful with the steam that will tent up inside. It dissipates almost instantly when it hits the air, but if you stick your hand in it before it does, you could get burned.

This steamer has changed the landscape of my closet and is well worth the price.

Customer Review: Great Met All My Needs
Summary: 5 Stars

This product is amazing I would recommend it to anyone who wants an affordable hassle free means of steaming and or ironing there clothes; this beats labouring over an ironing board any day. I must also say that before purchasing the J-2000 I extensively read the reviews of those who purchase it on amazon before me. Most had sterling reviews which was a plus as well as those who may have purchased another brand that cost much less were sorely dissapointed in their buy.

Assembly was straight foward and easy not much needed. Directions for use easy as well fill the tank plug it in flip it on and in a few minuted you have steam. Now the fun part for me is how quick and easy it is to steam my shirts. It's basically two passes over with the steamer for the front and back each and thats its...wrinkles gone, smooth clean steamed clothes wthout any scorch marks. The pants were a little tricker for me until I came upon the idea of steaming the pants upside down, [hanging from the cuffs instead of the waist] and it was even quicker to steam than the shirt.

I guess my only drawback with the steamer is not the steamer itself but the fact that to really steam my pants so that the pleats show i would need to pony up another $100 for some sort of hanging steaming board.
Other than that I give the J-2000 5 stars and if you buy it you wont be dissapointed.

Customer Review: great product
Summary: 5 Stars

Got this steamer a week ago. . . .

If you've ever looked in your closet and decided not to wear something because it was a little wrinkled and you were too lazy to iron it, this may be the right product for you. Traditional ironing takes forever because you spend half your time arranging and rearranging your shirt/pants/etc "just so" on the ironing board so that you don't accidentally iron a crease into your garment. With this, you can get the wrinkles out in less than half the time because you just steam it on the hanger.

We also bought the steam board, and hopefully with some practice will be able to get dress shirts nice and crisp (as others have been able to do).

We have lots of polo-type shirts that we hang-dry (so they don't shrink and become unflattering belly-shirts), but unfortunately that meant they always had some wrinkles and felt a little crunchy. We never ironed them. (Iron knits? Forget it.) Now, with 60 seconds of steam, they are wrinkle free and soft, and look like nicer. Even if we never master the crisp-shirt steam-ironing, this steamer would be totally worth it just for use on knits. I love it!!!

Finally, this may seem really obvious, but the steamer will make your room nice and humid if you use it long enough, so crack open a window.

Customer Review: Great Steamer Overall
Summary: 5 Stars

Have to say that overall, the performance on this machine has been stellar. I bought it from Amazon nearly five years ago now, and have had few problems with it. About two years ago, I had to replace the water reservoir (believe it was ~$25) because it had a crack in it. About a week ago, I noticed the steamer is leaking from the bottom. I thought it was the water reservoir again, so I removed it and put it in the kitchen. Next day, I come back and notice there's a new puddle under the steamer. Apparently, it's leaking from somewhere underneath. Not sure if I can fix it, so if I can't, I'll buy another Jiffy.

Now performance- this thing will steam just about anything (I use it for clothes almost exclusively) that you would wear to work (business casual, suits, etc.). The only problems I've ever had getting wrinkles out of were high cotton content garments (same garments that would be tough to iron!!!). I literally haven't touched my iron once since the day the steamer showed up though. I'm ok with that, since that's the reason I bought it in the first place!

Bottom line is that this steamer works great with most all clothing, particularly synthetics and blends. Good luck!
