The Gorilla tripod is terrific. You can put it anywhere and aim it where you want in ways I haven't seen with anything else. This is much, much easier than the old "snake light" if you remember that. The magnets in the feet are remarkably strong. The dimmer works fine. If you do much work like under sinks or in attics where a headlight doesn't quite get the job done, this is as good as it gets for a positionable flashlight.
Two things I'd like to see. First, mount the tripod to the light with a 1/4-20 thread so the tripod could still be used with a camera; as it is, the tripod is permanently mounted with the flashlight head. Second, put a focusing mechanism on the light so it can be flood or spot. Gorilla tripods aren't cheap by themselves, so the money in this is presumably in the tripod, not the headlight. I'd pay more for a refined lamp. Don't misunderstand though, the bright light and easy aiming makes it a good value.
FWIW the first one of these I received was DOA, but Amazon replaced it immediately. It happens.

I bought a gorillapod for my camera so when I saw this product, I immediately thought about it for my husband for Father's Day. He loves it! He works on vintage cars as well as doing repairs around the house. Sometimes when trying to light the waterheater or fix a pipe under the sink, you need a flashlight but you need someone to hold it in just the right position. This Gorillatorch is perfect because it has bendable arms for wrapping around a pipe or lamp base or as a tripod to sit on a surface and shine the light where needed. On one of the arms is a small but pretty powerful magnet that will hold the light in place to leave your hands free to work. The photo on the packaging shows the light attached to the side of a car (with the magent) as the tire is being changed. Perfect use of this little light! I dropped a screw in the bottom of my sewing machine and borrowed my hubby's new gift to dig it out. It is perfect because you position it to shine the light right where you need it. I bought two of these for Christmas gifts. If I had known when I bought them that they were so useful, I would have bought one for every man in my family and some of the women, too. The magnetic feature on the legs is very useful...and it's powerful, too. The magnets hold on very well. The flexibility of the tripod is also a big plus, because it can be used in tight places, where there are no flat surfaces, and just about anywhere that a light might be needed.
I ended up ordering one extra of these, to keep my nephew from stealing my dad's. And of course, I had to get a different color so there would be no mix-ups. In all, I'd rate this much higher than five stars. The light is powerful (and adjustable), and the whole contraption is amazingly useful.
The design prompted me to purchase the GorillaMobile for my cameras, video cameras, and phones. And I love it, too!

I bought this flashlight on a whim one day, not thinking at all about how I would use it. It immediately became clear that this was the best flashlight I've ever had. I'm used to having to maneuver with a large Maglight whenever I need a flashlight. Having both my hands free has been wonderful. If you're wondering whether you'll ever use this flashlight, here are some things I've used this for where it's been significantly better than using a regular flashlight: crawling behind the Christmas tree to change a fuse, replacing components in a desktop pc, and rewiring a doorbell. Being able to shine the light directly on the work area without having to hold it in place has been great, and the magnetic feet were particularly helpful when working on the computer. Those magnetic feet are also great because you can keep the flashlight stuck to your refrigerator and you'll always know where it is.Customer Review: Works great, makes a great gift for hands-on people

I purchased two of these flashlights, one for myself and one as a gift. First thing you'll notice is that the construction feels very solid - you're not going to break it just by using it. Only part that feels a bit cheap is the battery door, but it works fine and should not be a problem. The legs are what you'd expect from a Joby product - fully articulatable and they stay put. Even better, though, the feet are magnetic, which is fantastic. They are pretty strong too, more than enough to hold the flashlight without it moving much.
Finding everyday uses for the flashlight was a little harder than expected, but it's very useful for anything where you need both hands. The days of holding a flashlight with your mouth are over! Plumbing, wiring, car repairs, etc... you can find a use for this flashlight for just about anything.
