We just purchased a half-dozen of these units to replace our original, now ten year-old, Firex units. I never would have replaced them if the home inspector hadn't recommended it in connection with the sale of our condo (in only four days!). Our buyer was thrilled that we replaced with similar units to what he had in his prevous home.
The conversion was very simple as I merely needed to mount the ring to the outlet box and rewire the three conductor plug connection. The entire process took barely an hour for all six units.
Please remember to replace your units no less than on a ten year interval.
Really a great product that we stake our lives on every day!!!

My smoke alarms were more than 10 years one so I wanted to replace them. Once I started doing research I found out from 2-3 contractors that this is the number one installed smoke alarm in the US. So I ordered 7 of these from Amazon and it was "plug and play". I did not even need a screw driver! My wife was very happy.
If you have a smoke alarm that looks like the one show in the Amazon pictures (and it is a good chance you do) then order them and it should be simple to install / replace.

This smoke detector was very easy to install. I had an older Kidde smoke detector, so all I had to do was add the new smoke detector to the old brackets. There was no "chirping", as some stated in their reviews, so to make sure it was working, I tested it. And when I tested one, they both went off. Replaced some older firex units with these. had to wire it, as they did not share the same connector as my firex unit did. they did work together though! love the battery door on the top of the unit, no more removing the alarm, which never goes back up as easy.....
worthwhile replacement, great price.

This product was easy to install with very clear instructions. I installed it in 10 minutes as a replacement to an older unit which had expired. These units should be replaced periodically and some have expiration dates on them..
