Easy to use, "it just works". With battery backup, no worries. I bought 4 (including gifts for my in-laws). All are great.

We bought this alarm during the holidays. Works good no problems. I would buy it again. You should buy one or two.

Customer Review: GJ-WI
Summary: 4 Stars

I just purchased 3 of these units, one for each level in the house including basement. I like the plug-in feature for ease of installation. As for the "tamper-resist" feature, the "instruction manual" says this feature can be "disabled" by pressing & holding in the tamper-resist activation switch below the plug and moving the disable slide on its left toward the switch. So I tested it out by unplugging the unit and following those instructions. The moment I pressed in the switch, the alarm stopped and I then moved the disable slide toward it and it worked just as the instructions said. Then when I plugged it back in, I just did the reverse. So I hope this will help others if their alarm goes off prematurely. I gave it 4 stars so far only because I just got the units today so time will tell if they perform well for me.

Update: I had occasion to talk with our local fire chief today and although he could not recommend any particular brand or model of detectors, he did say that one with a display for monitoring CO2 levels was much better than one without a display. So with that in mind, I decided to return this model and purchase ones with a display and without the tamper-resist feature.

Customer Review: Few Helpful Notes
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm giving this product a three star because I just purchased it earlier in the week to replace my old model (so I'm unsure how well it'll work in the long run), and I noticed a lot of reviews complaining about a few issues that I discovered and resolved myself.

1.) Continuous beeping -- it's the unit's tamper resistant feature. My power went out for a bit in the middle of the night and caused it blaring through the house. We pulled it out and it kept going and going. It was PAINFUL to say the least. Remember, this thing is trying to ALERT you in the middle of the night while you are sleeping, IT HAS TO BE LOUD. Anyway, when the unit is disconnected from its main source of power (such as getting knocked over or removed), it WILL beep to notify you.

2.) While I was trying to figure out why it kept beeping, I had no way of stopping it. (I had it removed from the wall and I couldn't find the screwdriver in the middle of the night.) I found out pushing down the CROSS SHAPED button on the back (right below the plug) would stop the blaring. I held it down with a piece of tape and went back to sleep.

So the next morning, I blew some compressed air to clean it up (dust, smoke, etc. would also trip the unit), stuck it right back into the wall with the tape removed. Reset the system and it's ready to go.

I guess I learned a lot about this detector in one night (I had an older model prior to this one where it didn't have a backup battery. So when the power went out, it didn't go off like this one did.) So I wanted to address what I learned with everyone. Hopefully my unit will be able to last for a good 5-7 years. I'm also considering getting one with the digital readout, so I would be able to tell if there is CO in the house or not. Just remember that CO is odorless, colourless, and tasteless and it is impossible for us to detect it, so you NEED one of these. This one will probably go downstairs in the living room.

One last thought, when the unit needs a battery replacement or needs to be replaced entirely, it will beep once every 30 seconds to notify you. I hope all these help!
