Tools and Hardware Reviews of Kidde KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk Plug-In Carbon Monoxide and Explosive Gas Alarm with Battery BackupCustomer Review: Peace of Mind Summary: 5 Stars
We got this to replace another detector (that didn't detect the unlit stove filling the air with gas).
Our propane delivery man recommended anything with Nighthawk technology, saying that technology was much better than the others. This covers propane, natural gas, and carbon monoxide. It plugs right into a wall outlet, so you don't have to mount it anywhere. It also has a battery for power outages and other nice features.
I find it comforting that other reviewers said it alarms when hair spray or shellac are in the air. It sounds like it covers even more explosive gases than it claims on the package.
I've not been around propane stoves, hot water heaters, etc. for some years, so I wanted some reassurance of our safe use of these.
Customer Review: Kidde Nighthawk alarm KN-COEG-3 Summary: 5 Stars
We have been looking for a home monitor/alarm that could detect carbon monoxide and explosive gases. We wanted it to be portable as well as reasonably priced. We selected the Kidde Nighthawk alarm with battery backup after reading a lot of reviews and recommendations. The instructions were helpful and easy to understand. We were able to test that the unit works and now have it plugged into an outlet near the stairs in our home. It is comforting to know that our family is protected especially at night. I think this product is as necessary as a fire alarm and recommend that everyone consider purchasing a unit for your family's safety.
Customer Review: No false alarms, just sensitive Summary: 5 Stars
I use this one in my kitchen. If I forget to turn on the exhaust fan before heating up the oven, I can see the numbers climb in the readout. For safety equipment, I think sensitivity is a virtue.
A friend was having headaches for months during the heating season and finally learned that her CO alarm had such a high thresh-hold that it missed the sub-lethal doses of CO the faulty furnace was putting out. Better safe than sorry.
And isn't most hairspray a "toxic gas," or close enough to one to think twice about using it in an unventilated space? I find the idea of it detecting such gases quite comforting.
Customer Review: Perfect Summary: 5 Stars
This alarm is great. I have it mounted in the basement with my gas boiler and water heater. Once for example, I was painting with some heavy duty shellac paint in another room in the basement. The smell started to get totally noxious and I started to wonder if I should go shut down the pilot flame to the water heater. About the same time the alarm started shouting "gas". Technically thats probably a false alarm, but for do it your-self people it is something not to be without. Once the alarm sounds if you know the area you are in is safe, then you can move the alarm to a clear area until you are done working.
Customer Review: It saved my home! Summary: 5 Stars
Few weeks ago, at 3:30 AM the Gas Alarm was triggered. When I opened my bedroom's door, a strong gas smell was all over the place, immediatly I closed the gas tube main valvle of my apartment. If it weren't for the alarm that awaked us, my maid, me or my dog could be death and maybe other persons from my building as well. I live in the Dominican Republic and 99% of our homes use gas stoves, and I consider this a must. It's a reliable and well designed product, it even has a back up batteries system using 4 AA batteries, so it's always on, even with power blackouts.
