I also had a problem with my two detectors using up the batteries in one to two months time. But I called Kidde customer service and after I gave them the model no and assembly dates from the back of the units, they confirmed that these models were defective. Apparently there is a faulty circuit that triggers the low battery indicator prematurely. So the batteries are actually not worn down completely. The problem is with the sensor that reads the battery levels. Kidde sent me two new detectors. They are working fine so far. I will know more after a couple months. If you have this problem, call Kidde customer service and they should take care of you.Customer Review: probably saved our lives

We had this exact model in our cabin for years. The digital readout always read "0". One night we had a fire in the fireplace, and let the flames die out to just embers and went to bed. The damper on the fireplace was open, however we awoke to a piercing sound that would have wakened the dead. The Nighthawk had a reading of 40 something. That is low enough where we might not have died, however the number/ level of carbon monoxide could have rapidly elevated, and without this detector, we surely could have died. I love the fact that it detected CO at a low level, and we were able to take action promptly (get everyone up and out and air out the cabin).Customer Review: Better than First Alert

This is much better that the similiar model from First Alert. The Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk has two major advantages as compared to the First Alert model. The Kidder has a red digital display which is much easier to read than the First Alert model which is black on a gray background which is hard to read at certain angles. When the power goes out in my home, the Kidde continues to show the digital readout of CO by using the battery power, the First Alert model digital display does not record the CO level, instead it show that the battery power is being used. I have replace all 4 of my First Alerts in my home with the Kiddd CO detectors.Customer Review: Strong Warranty Support

This detector looks good, I suppose it works, and it's simple to use. Just install the included 9 volt battery and plug it in.
It has a 5 year warranty and mine broke within a couple of weeks of my 5 year mark. I called Customer Service, they were nice and efficient, they didn't hassle me, and they sent me a new unit in less than a week.
If you don't want to worry about changing out the 9 volt battery periodically, buy a lithium 9 volt battery from CheapBatteries.com. It costs about 4 times as much as an alkaline, but it'll last you 10 years. They're good for smoke detectors too.

I have had this detector for a few years and it has worked flawlessly. I have always had very low CO readings in my house since it is 75 years old now. Recently, my wife while in the house, was talking on her Cellular Phone, and walked within 5 feet of this detector, and it set off the detector and caused the detector to generate false readings from the radiation that the Cell Phone was producing. She actually saw the display, displaying a series of random numbers, as she was talking on her cellular phone. We also have 900MHz cordless phones in the house and these do not appear to affect the detector.
