Bought this product because I trust the Kidde name for their reliability.
I wanted a device that was a combination Carbon Monoxide and Smoke alarm that used batteries. This product fit the bill. I like that it uses AA batteries instead of 9v - because I always have AA on hand.
Included with the alarm is the mounting hardware and the 3 AA batteries.
I haven't had an alarm that talked before - but the voice on it is fine and am hoping family will pay more attention to it when it goes off.
Also nice - this alarm has an end of life feature. At the end of 7 years the alarm will go off every 30 seconds - indicating it's time to replace it. I like brainless features like that. Once less thing for me to think about.

I can't speak for the battery life, but the manual recommends replacing every 6 months. That leads me to believe that they should last at least that long, and I don't consider that to be a problem.
If you do buy one of these units, you may have trouble installing it onto the base. There is a plastic tab (1 of 2) that impair pushing it onto the base mounted on the ceiling. The trick to fix this is to push the tab down into the unit using a fingernail. (I suspect that this tab arms an internal switch to activate the unit's life cycle of 7 years, but I'm not certain of this.) The remaining tab will not be a problem.
Overall, it's a great value for 3/06 prices.

I originally purchased two of these 7 years ago when I moved into our new home. The two I just purchased are replacing the original two. Being a Firefighter I am very safety minded. Because these are two-in-one alarms, I think they are a super buy. About 4 years ago one of the alarms went off in the middle of the night warning of Carbon Monoxide. My charcoal grill was put back into my garage too soon and CO was building up in the house. THANKS to Kidde and this alarm system!!! Remember to replace these units every 5-7 years and replace the batteries every time the time changes...(every 6 months)Customer Review: Who's Kidding?

The Kiddie smoke/co2 alarm works great! We installed both units in the same location as the old smoke detectors were located however one was in the kitchen where we had just installed a gas range; and sure enough the kitchen smoke/alarm went off (Scared my wife's dog) while I was cooking bacon and forgot to turn the exhaust fan on. Moved the alarm to the computer room just off the kitchen and have not heard a beep from it. We have a 1960 brick home and was not wired for alarms so we purchased the battery powered ones.Customer Review: excellent product

This purchase was a replacement for an identical 9 year old combination alarm. Based upon the lengthy satisfactory service of the replaced item, I am confident my new purchase will give like service.
The most suprising thing about this purchase (since it was my first experience with Amazon.com) was the promptness of receipt of the purchase. The order was placed on a Friday afternoon, the new smoke alarm arrived on Monday. I was only without the protection of this item a very short time. THANKS
