Customer Review: Replacement Smoke Detector

I had the same model smoke detector, which died after a long life. They say it should be replaced after 7, and mine might have actually made it to 8. You can tell the unit is dead when it chirps about everything 30 seconds, but doesn't say "low battery" after the chirp. (If it did say low battery, then a simple replacement battery should do the trick rather than buying a whole new unit).
I have had zero trouble with this model, so I decided to replace it with the same exact kind. Since I already had this model, the installation was a snap and just had to plug in the new unit and screw it back onto the wall. New unit came with a 9V battery already installed. As my current smoke detectors reach the end of their usable life, I plan on replacing with this unit.

I purchased many things on Ebay & many on Amazon. I had 2 issues with my purchase. One was a Shipping issue which the Seller cleared up right away & the other one was Mint Sealed in the box & was not the Sellers fault by any means. I emailed him & told him about my issues & he has twisted MY arm to make them right. WHAT A STAND UP SELLER. I wish I could post this on every web-site that everyone on the internet could see so they know that there are still trust worthy people out there.

Models: KN-COSM-IB and i12080. Easy to install and replace. In my state, combination CO and Smoke units must have Voice warnings. The i12080 unit with the light is a nice feature, though could be a bit brighter.
I have multiple of both units installed on the "interconnect network" of 110V power. The interesting thing discovered is when pressed the Test button on the i12080, only the other i12080 on the entire interconnect network would sound the alarm test and light up. The KN-COSM-IB stays silent. When pressed the Test button of the KN-COSM-IB, all units on the network would sound the alarm and light up.
Weird. Let's see how long the backup 9V battery lasts in these units. Other users have reported horrible experiences.

I received 3 of these a few weeks ago to replace some very old systems in my house that were beginning to give that annoying "time to replace me" beep as the internals decay over time. Fortunately, my old alarms were linked so the wiring was all there and I was able to install all three in less than 20 minutes total. Testing was easy as you hit test as soon as you install each one and the others that are installed sound the alarm too so you know immediately if they are linked correctly.
I especially like the voice command so you know if it is smoke or carbon monoxide without having to remember the beep sequences. I haven't received any false alarms since installing them. I highly recommend!

In my county, all rental unites MUST have carbon monoxide alarms outside of common sleeping areas. I purchased three of these in H.Depot store for the same price it currently sells on amazon.
Pros: easy to setup. I had different brand of smoke alarms (16 years old), replacing was easy. What's more, when testing I noticed that these KIDDE's are interchangeable with my old detectors - when pressed TEST button on KIDDE, old ones would also start beeping.
One of three purchased alarms was not working out of box - I had to exchange it in H. Depot. If I were to buy these on amazon, it'd be much more complicated with all returns and shipping back and forth.
Overall, good product.
