Description of La Crosse Technology WS-7078 Wireless Forecast StationIndoor Temperature F or C Indoor humidity Remote temperature F or C Remote humidity One TX4U remote included Can receive as many as 3 remotes Forecast icon, based on changing air pressure Forecast is about 75% accurate for 12-20 hours Wall hanging or Free Standing Radio controlled time and date Dual time alarms with snooze 12 or 24 hour time mode Additional outdoor sensors available, call for availability & cost The La Crosse Technology WS-7078UF wireless forecast station does more than measure indoor or remote temperatures and humidity. Taking a page from local news broadcasts, it also forecasts the weather for the next 12 to 20 hours based on changing air pressure. Like the local news, it's about 75 percent accurate in its forecasts, with a weather icon in the center to displays its prediction. The unit employs a TX4U remote temperature sensor to display temperatures up to 80 feet away with no obstructions, and approximately 50 to 65 feet away if exterior or interior walls are in the way. The station is also appropriate for gauging the humidity or conditions in temperature-sensitive environments, such as greenhouses, darkrooms, or labs. The indoor temperature range is 32 to 140 degrees F, and the remote temperature range is -21.8 to 156.2 degrees F. Though the station comes with one remote, it has the capacity to read as many as three separate remotes. Other features include a radio-controlled clock with the time and date, dual alarms with snooze functions, and a 12- or 24-hour time mode. The unit is comfortable either hanging on a wall or free standing and measures 4-1/2 by 7 by 1 inches (W x H x D). Both the display unit and remote require two AA batteries. --Rivers Janssen
Tools and Hardware Reviews of La Crosse Technology WS-7078 Wireless Forecast StationCustomer Review: Great value Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned two Lacrosse weather stations with the "round" sensor for a year and really like them. We have the sensor installed outside under a deck seat, and two units that feed off this (that's a handy feature, you can have multiple devices in the house that tie to one unit). This unit is not junk, but on the other hand it's not a Davis professional weather station either. It's just is a good, reliable product for its price. The other reviewer may be right that it may be a degree off, but it's designed for the more general user who wants to know the accurate time, what the temp is outside (and doesn't really care if 81F is actually 82F). It's not for someone who is into tracking and reporting weather figures.
I'm not sure what the person was talking about re: the company's responsiveness. They have a web site that has email and phone support, and I've emailed them twice in the past year (the last time just recently). Both times I've received a quality response within a day.
Note that there is a more expensive unit that uses the same sensor and reports sunrise/sunset and moonrise/moonset times. Astronomers will find that handy.
