Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lasko 1115 3-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating HumidifierCustomer Review: A humidifier that actually humidifies. Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned many humidifiers over the years. Most have been disappointing. This one actually works.
We've been using this in one our rooms for about a year now and have been very pleased with the effectiveness of this unit. It produces an appreciable amount of humidity and can run about 10 hours or so on the highest setting with a full tank. The modestly sized room (12X10) it's in is much more comfortable as a result of this humidifier.
In this unit the filter sits outside of the water. As a result the filter is less prone to molding and holds up longer than other wick/filtered humidifiers I've used in the past. We have old pipes in an older house and have to change filters about once a month or so as a result. We use one of those Protec cleaning cartridges in the tank as well. Seems to help preserve the filter a bit longer as well, though with our water the tank needs cleaning on regular basis.
Speaking of filters, purchase them directly from Lasko. You'll save a couple bucks per filter vs. Amazon and elsewhere.
This unit is also easy to clean. Fill the tank with a vinegar/water solution and let it run for a bit. You can disconnect the tubes and run a pipe cleaner through them to clean out remaining gunk. You can wipe out most of the other areas with with a towel. Only area that requires some effort to clean is the space where the water is hosed into. Taking off a few screws, and pulling the housing apart, makes cleaning that area much easier. Not much effort involved really.
I see several reports of the unit leaking in other reviews. We've not had any such issues ourselves. Though the way the water is distributed/hosed, and the fact that you have to find the 'sweet-spot' when putting the top housing/motor over the tank, I can see how leaks could occur if some part is misaligned.
All in all a solid unit.
