Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lasko 1115 3-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier

Customer Review: Success at last
Summary: 5 Stars

The third try was the charm... I love this humidifier. I had had problems with the Vicks and the Hamilton Beach cool-mist evaporative humidifiers (mess, ineffectiveness, complicated refilling/draining/mopping, and, with the Vicks, perhaps a defective seal that made unscrewing the tank cap a painfully difficult operation). This Lasko model with its completely different design has done the trick. The water tank is on the bottom instead of the top, and you can fill it easily from, say, a jug of distilled water, without having to take it to the sink to disassemble it, empty the reservoir, make a mess. The intelligent product design has the cord attached high on the back of the unit, so that even if you did slop the water while filling it you won't bathe the cord in it, nor will you get it into the motor (see picture; you refill it at the half-circle you see low on the front).

Other reviewers have described it, including the sound, and I agree that the sound of the fan and the water takes some getting used to. But until someone invents a silent humidifier/fan, I'll be happy with this one. Oddly, my cats love it and sleep in the closest spots to it. They probably like the water sound. Their fur loses its static electricity when they're in the vicinity, too.

As for its effectiveness--it's doing its best against my powerful forced-air furnace, which has been on a lot this past week (VERY cold here). On medium speed, it's been raising the humidity level 10% in about an hour and a half. This speed lets me get through a long day (~14 hours) on one gallon of water.

I'm very pleased with it!

Customer Review: Quiet and efficient
Summary: 5 Stars

Approximately four days ago we started using the Lasko 3-gallon Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier as our family was recovering from the common cold. The air is always dry, as we live in the high country, but we all felt the dryness when our noses were stuffy.

We ordered the Lasko humidifier and it arrived right on time thanks to Amazon.

I cleaned the humidifier as directed by the manufacturer and then placed the unit in our family room. After several hours the humidity increased by about 20% in our house. As stated in Amazon's advertising copy this unit is supposed to humidify up to 1,500 square feet. The box states this unit is perfect for bedrooms and will humidify an 800 square foot area. All I can state is the humidifier has done a sufficient job of raising the interior humidity from about 30 percent to almost 50 percent. We are now comfortable and breathing easier thanks to this unit.

Positive things we like about this unit:

Quiet. You hear a quiet fan and if you are sitting close to the machine it almost sounds like the tinkling of a brook as the water is sprayed into the cooling unit.

Easy to fill. I use a Rubbermaid plastic pitcher to pour water directly into the machine. There is a door that you can push down and directly pour water into the container below. No more taking the unit apart and lugging the water container to the tub to fill with water. The pitcher can do the job. It's so much easier.

Negatives: I can't think of one negative thing. This a wonderful unit that does the job.

Highly recommend.

Customer Review: Lovin' the Lasko humidifier
Summary: 5 Stars

I got the Lasko 1115 3-gallon humidifier after many poor nights sleep (it took me a while to realize this was due to dryness- I eventually realized that dryness was what was causing all the static electricity that kept shocking me).
Anyway, I got it in the mail right when they said, in great condition, and immediately cleaned it and plugged it in. I haven't had a humidifier for like 15 years- this is all new to me: cleaning filters wasn't something you did back then (yikes). The instructions are easy to understand and the care and maintainence are easy to perform. The humidifier has an added benefit of creating the perfect volume of "white noise" on it's lowest setting, so stormy nights or traffic are less noticeable. The medium and high settings are a little noisier- I save the high settings for when I'm not home, though I find that the lowest setting is sufficient in humidifying the house. This style of humidifier also doesn't have the drawbacks of "white dust" that the ultrasonic humidifiers apparently have. I've had no problem with overhumidification (no moisture on insides of windows, etc). I've run this humidifier for about 12 hours a day on average for the past 2 months, and it's still going strong. Great product- great price- glad I got it!

Customer Review: Performs as claimed
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this humidifier about 10 days ago and realize that I need to buy a second one in order to get enough humidity into the air. We keep it running 24 hours a day, but the 3 gallons or so of output just isn't enough to bump the humidity level more than about 5% in a 600 sq ft. area (bdrm, bath, and walkin closet). This isn't the fault of the product,in my opinion. I have a humister to measure the humidity which has been averaging in the house around 30% without the humidifier.

It is very easy to refill. We use a quart bottle to refill and have yet to have any leakage. You do need to be mindful not to over fill the tank as potentially you would get water into the motor. My suggestion would be to keep the water level approx. 11/2 inches below the top of the clear plastic tank. The sound level is pretty unobtrusive at the 1 and 2 setting. I haven't cleaned it yet, but that's coming as I can see some calcium buildup on the filter.

BTW the delivery was fast w/ standard mailing in two days from ordering! The product packaging is skimpy as other reviewers have noted, but the box was shipped inside a shipping box and that probably kept it from any shipping damage.

Customer Review: Leak Problem Solved - Puts plenty of moisture in Air
Summary: 5 Stars

I liked the idea of an Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier. Of course, the 3 Gallon capacity is bull squat. Ad doesn't mention filling it twice a day. Had same Leak Problem as others. Worked great, filter a great idea, Then: - The great leak on my carpet. I thought I screwed up and became extremely diligent in following all the rules. Don't overfill, Be sure to turn off unit before filling, Keep unit level. Worked fine, and then the same thing. It Leaked.- Really liked the unit and didn't want the hassle of returning the unit. - SOLVED the Problem by placing the Unit inside of a Litter Pan. Got one from Big Lots for 6.00, measures about 14 x 17 X 4" High. The Unit perfectly. Now, if it leaks again, the water stays inside the Litter pan.

Then I got smart and contacted the manufacturer @ 1-800-233-0268. Described my problem, and discovered a missing part. They sent me a plastic insert that fits onto a lower track just inside the front creme panel. The insert has a groove that slides over this inside track. Do not try to attach to the clear panel. The clear panel is designed to press against it when closed. Finally, Problem solved.
