Tools and Hardware Reviews of Stanley High-Velocity Blower Fan, 655702Customer Review: Similar to a Vornado, smaller footprint, lower price. Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a guy who's bought 8 Vornado products over the last 10 years and can state that their product quality has declined as they've moved more unit production overseas (The Global Economy is here to stay, I'm ok with that. I'm not ok with the reduced quality of the newer Vornado products coming out today)
The decline in Vornado quality led me to search for alternative air movers, which led me to purchase this unit. After a week and a half of constant use here's what I've noticed:
The Stanley BlowerFan can move air as far as a Vornado Full Size Fan (Both directly blow air effectively out to 16-35+ feet, I've never got any of the Vornado fans to noticeably move air out to 100 feet per their literature) and has a lower price point. The air flow direction is more adjustable than a Vornado, the nozzle can be turned 360 degrees on the vertical plane and can be positioned to blow directly across whatever flat surface the fan is resting on, very handy for drying up kitchen, bathroom, and workshop floors or carpets after deep cleanings.
In open areas it makes less noticeable noise (although it is a fan, don't expect it to be silent) and takes up less space than a full size Vornado fan. It's much easier to move around with a handle designed to be grabbed by guys wearing work gloves and it is light enough to pickup and hold with one hand. When put into storage, the cord wraps around the two base legs of the unit to keep everything tidy and in one place.
Side Note: The BlowerFan can double as an extension cord. Up to two other electrical devices can be plugged into the unit itself (Electrical devices can draw up to 10 amps through the fan safely, more than enough for most household use. Check the specs for power draw for power tools before plugging them in to this)
The one area that the Vornado wins out on is the total volume of air being moved. The Full Size Vornado's have a grill opening of 11-12 inches in diameter (@ 36 square inches), this BlowerFan has an opening of 7" x 3" (21 square inches). For practical purposes, both succeed at effectively moving air though or over an area. But if you need a TON of air moved, i.e. to clear a room of smoke or circulate air around a huge room or house, the volume of air moved by the Vornado is worth considering for those purposes over the BlowerFan.
SUMMARY:
BlowerFan: Quieter, Lighter, Easier to Move, Moves air as far as a Vornado Fan.
Vornado: Moves more air.
Overall, the BlowerFan is good product and excellent value at the price point of @ $50 (at the time of this review being written). The MSRP of Full Size Vornado's range from $80-$130, although they can be found for less.
Customer Review: Great multi-use fan that moves a lot of air Summary: 5 Stars
I am on my 3rd one of these fans...not because they break, but because people keep borrowing them from me and not wanting to return them because it is such a great little fan. I have been using it for almost 4 years now and would never purchase a different one. It is perfect for just about every job needing a fan. We use ours primarily in the bedroom at night when sleeping because it is the only fan we have found within this price range that can move air across our giant bedroom...plus it also makes a wonderful & even humming noise that is perfect to sleep to (much like a white-noise maker).
I like to clean our own carpets monthly and this little fan works wonders at drying the carpet within minutes (yes, minutes vs. hours like other fans). You could go buy one of those fancy, huge, professional carpet drying fans and spend approx $200 and get the same results with this much less expensive fan.
I don't use the 2 outlets on the side of the fan, but I imagine they could come in handy for some folks. The power cord on this thing is quite robust, which is a good thing if you were to plug in power tools. The cord is of a decent length, too. One of my favorite things about this fan is the rubber feet is has mounted on the bottom to keep it from scooting around. It's electrical areas are mouted a few inches off of the ground so I don't worry when placing it on wet carpet or tile.
Now, this fan has a very narrow direct route of air-flow and really doesn't do a good job of moving air across a wide area, you have to gradually move it if you wish to dry a wide area. This doesn't bother me because I wasn't looking for that in a fan. One other negative to is is the plastic housing...it shouldn't be dropped. I have dropped mine a few times on mostly carpeted floors and I can see where the seam in the middle is spreading (not breaking, just spreading apart). This hasn't affected it in anyway, but worth noting that it is not so durable if dropped. Only other thing worth mentioning, is the fact that it should be cleaned often if exposed to a lot of dust because it can get trapped inside & cause the fan to make a very annoying whistling noise.
Customer Review: It's so good, I bought three of these fans! Summary: 5 Stars
I have the first blower fan in my house. Works great at keeping me cool on hot and humid summer days! One reviewer said this isn't good for use as a personal fan. Nonsense! This fan is terrific for helping me sleep comfortably when set at the lowest speed. Very tolerable noise level when compared to the air volume it's moving! Need to cool off your house? Set this baby on High speed and point it towards an open window and feel the temperature of the room drop quickly.
It works so well, I got a second one for the garage to keep me cool when I'm detailing my cars. The two electric outlets built into the side are very handy indeed! Virtually eliminates the need for an extension cord in the garage.
I even bought myself a third one for work. I have A/C in my office, but it often can't keep up with the summertime heat and humidity outside. Enter the Stanley Blower fan! Where the A/C reaches it's cooling limits, this fan keeps me cool and comfortable. The narrow and directional nature of the exhausted air also means that my paperwork won't go flying around in a blizzard-like fashion. It works so well, my co-workers keep "borrowing" my fan when I'm not there.
This fan has completely and utterly spoiled me! Though I use these fans all the time, I have yet to encounter any problems or issues with reliability. I even knocked over the (garage) fan accidentally a few times and the plastic construction seems to be more durable than it looks. I'm not doubting the people that did have issues with this product. Maybe I just got lucky with the ones I got.
Bottom line: This fan is the King of portable fans! If you want cheap and good, get the Massey 8-inch fan, or the Honeywell HT-900C Tabletop Air-Circulator Fan, Black. Both of those won't do you wrong. If you want the Ferrari of fans, get this baby. You won't regret it!
Customer Review: Powerful fan, great for airing out rooms Summary: 5 Stars
This is an awesome blower. I originally picked it up to air out my apartment after the annoying neighbors under my apartment filled my unit with disgusting cigarette smoke. It did a great job shooting the smokey air right out the window. Its high-power, directional fan makes it great for a variety of uses.
I was particularly impressed by its quiet operation. Even on its highest setting, I was able to run it through the night and sleep in the same room with it. It's not quite as quiet as a conventional fan, but this isn't, after all, a conventional fan. Speaking of which, I'm sure you'll find many uses for it (e.g. airing out a room where you're painting, drying carpet, zapping the burned microwave popcorn smell), but if you want something to blow a gentle breeze around a room, go with something standard. I wouldn't recommend it for cooling yourself as with a regular fan - it's really better at exhaust and circulating fresh air. I suppose you could use it as a fan if you're stuck under the sink repairing the plumbing (as is the case with the guy pictured on the box), but that's really not what it's best at.
The unit itself is very sturdy. One of the previous reviewers claims the construction is cheap, but this was not my experience at all. He may have a defective unit. Mine has taken a fair amount of abuse without flinching. I've had it running 12+ hours without even getting warm. The power cord is equally substantial. Ten feet is a good length and the cable is heavy-duty. The extra outlets are a welcome bonus - Stanley (or Lasko) went above and beyond.
With so many possible uses, this is a great fan to pick up. If you already have a use for something like this, look no further - this is your best bet. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Excellent fan! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these several years ago to use as a room fan and as a replacement for yet another in a long line of failed box fans. I have to say after my history since childhood with box fans that I've been utterly surprised at how long it has lasted and how sturdy it has been.
The sound is quieter and more constant than that of your standard box fan, and it seems to move a *lot* more air. Speaking of airflow, the directed airflow is very nice. If you like the air on you, you can set it on a night stand and direct it directly on your or just in the general area. The speed settings are convenient too, as having it that close and on high you can inflate your sheets and sleep in a bubble if you're not careful. I find the lowest setting is plenty for me.
I also take the fan with me when I'm on driving vacations. The fan fits nicely on hotel night stands and produces enough steady white noise that I blissfully don't hear a thing around me. In this area the long cord and dual plugs also really shine, as you can reach the outlet if it's hidden (old style motel rooms) and have convenient outlets on your nightstand for charging phones and whatnot.
Personally I've been totally sold on this style of fan now and don't see myself going back to the old box or round fan style anytime in the future. I haven't had much chance or need to try the other brands out there yet, but blowers are definitely where it's at for me now.
