Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lodge Cast Iron Scrubber BrushCustomer Review: Wish I had found it sooner Summary: 5 Stars
I've been cooking with cast iron for 6 years now and love it, but cleanup was always a bit of a pain, though I had managed to find a way with strong spraying of hot water, paper towels and regular seasonings. But once I found this brush and started using it, it became much easier. I can now skip the messy step of picking the gunk off with a paper towel. It does a better job and it's faster, too. I now consider this almost a necessity, though I realize I can do without it as I did before. But I don't want to. The bristles are very strong--strong enough that with soaking a cast iron pan in hot water for just 5 minutes (not too long to avoid rust), you can even remove difficult sugar-based sauces that have stuck and dried on. Since I cook 50% with cast iron these days (maybe 90% of meat), I always keep this close at hand near the sink. It's my favorite cleaning tool now. I enthusiastically recommend this, and will now buy these for my friends and relatives who are also starting to cook with cast iron.
Customer Review: Excellent brush Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent product well in keeping with Lodge's reputation for high quality at a reasonable price. It is a stiff, sturdy brush that gets the job done. It's the right length, has the perfect angle for applying pressure while scrubbing. I use vinegar and baking soda when the pan is particularly oily. Besides I've never been comfortable with washing my Lodge pan with just hot water after I've cooked meat or eggs on it. The brush does discolor with scrubbing and I toss it in the dishwasher when running a wash. I used Scotch Brite pads before purchasing this brush and those were not easy to clean after a scrubbing. Have had it a month and it shows no signs of wear or tear. Highly recommend this Lodge scrubber if you have cast iron pans to keep clean. I simply love Lodge - companies like these are what will save our economy.
Customer Review: Absolutely necessary Summary: 5 Stars
If you use cast iron cookware, you should buy several of these. They are the only thing that I've found that works well when trying to scrub this kind of cookware. I have a Lodge frying pan and a Lodge grill (the kind that goes over two burners). The frying pan will feel greasy until I go over with the brush. By the way, I was told not to use soap to clean my cast iron so, I use Kosher salt. Sprinkle it on, use a little water to make it pasty and scrub. The sticky bits of food and grease will come off with just a little scrubbing with this brush. This brush is even more essential to clean the grill pan to get into the grooves and ridges.
It also works extremely well on my Le Creuset grill and grill pan. This scrubber brush works. I highly recommend it.
Customer Review: A year old and still going strong Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this brush over a year ago for the purpose of scrubbing my cast iron pans. It's still in great shape after all the use it's gotten. I don't only use it to scrub out my cast iron pans, but also to scrub gunk out of regular stainless steel pans or ceramic/glass casserole dishes.
When scrubbing my cast iron, I do not use soap or detergent. The brush does get dirty, but I dunk it a few times in hot soapy water and rinse well...or, if I have other pans to wash that I can use soap on, I use it on those and it gets clean again.
To dry, I put it in my dish strainer with the bristles facing down so water doesn't collect in the head.
For scrubbing cast iron, or for general scrubbing...it's worked well for me for over a year.
Customer Review: Finally! Summary: 5 Stars
I have used cast iron cookware in the past, but I've always had trouble washing it afterward. So many foods will leave a mess behind, and the last thing you want to do is to use a scouring pad: the non-stick qualities of your seasoned pan would be ruined. I'd used a nylon brush I purchased from a local store, and it didn't work very well. Not only was it hard to hold, the bristles weren't very rigid. This Lodge scrubber brush is ideal for cleaning cast iron. It is easy to hold (I have mild arthritis, and it doesn't cause problems for me), and it works great. My cast iron pans see a lot more use now just because of this great product. I highly recommend it!
