The Lux CAG1500 Clean Cycle Programmable Thermostat is a dual-purpose seven-day programmable thermostat. The mercury-free CAG1500 not only controls temperature, but it also utilizes Clean Cycle technology to improve air quality. Compatible with most types of conventional heating and cooling systems, this thermostat is preprogrammed with a schedule developed to save energy and reduce costs. It also offers the convenience of four programmable periods per day.

The CAG1500 is unique among programmable thermostats in that it offers patented Clean Cycle technology, a feature that allows you to program your home's fan to circulate air through the HVAC system's filter, reducing airborne particles such as pollen, dust, pet dander, and other allergens. You can program the fan to run anywhere between 9 and 60 minutes each hour.
Not only does this improve the quality of air throughout your home, but it also increases your energy savings and comfort. First, the fan only runs and uses energy when you program it to do so, preventing wasted energy and unnecessary use. Second, the fan is programmed to operate independently, using much less energy than it would take to circulate a home's air by running the entire HVAC system.
Seven-Day Programming with Four Periods per Day
One of the easiest ways to reduce utility costs is to program your thermostat to fit your schedule. The CAG1500 lets you create a different program for every day of the week, and you can enter four different time periods and temperature settings in a 24-hour period (Morning, Day, Evening, and Night).
User-Friendly Programming, Filter Monitor, and Key Lock
Thanks to a large lighted multi-color display and the patented Lux Speed Dial the CAG1500 is incredibly easy to use. For further convenience, a graphic filter monitor indicates when the filter needs to be replaced or cleaned.
The CAG1500 also offers a keypad lock to prevent unauthorized changes to the thermostat settings.

Two "AA" alkaline batteries are required for operation (batteries not included).

Customer Review: Great programable thermostat - allows you to program fan as well.

I bought this thermostat to replace a much older programable thermostat that was already installed when I bought my condo. I wanted a thermostat that I could program the fan as well as the heat and the A/C. As I have two floors, heat tends to rise to the top, so in the top floor is much warmer than the first. I use the fan to help level out this, bringing warm air down in the winter and cool air up in the summer. It also like how the fan being on allows the air to circulate through the HVAC filter, helping reduce dust and pollen, both of which I am allergic to.
Wiring the thermostat was no problem, as you simply note how the old thermostat is wired and wire this one the same. It comes with wire labels, to help keep track of what wire goes to what post while the old thermostat is off.
The unit is incredibly easy to set up. It has four settings per day (morn, day, eve, night), and allows you to override the programmed setting by raising or lowering the temperature. The override will stay in effect until the next programed time period. It also has a vacation hold, which lets you hold the temperature until your unhold it, allowing you to set it to a higher or lower temperature while you are gone for extended time periods.
The majority of the controls are under the lower panel (see Lux's website for a picture of the opened unit, as well as a PDF of the manual, which I found useful to review before I bought). There are three buttons outside of the panel, which allows to you raise and lower the temperature, as well as turn on the back lighting. My unit makes a faint high pitched noise while backlit, similar to old indiglo watches. The buttons are not back lit, which would have been a nice touch if they were, but we have a light switch right below the unit. The buttons have a click to them as they are pushed, but have to be pushed a bit harder to actually make a change - this seemed like a larger problem than it really is while I still had the unit detached from the wall.
The unit is smaller than my older unit. I had to repaint some of the wall behind it, as the older unit left marks on the wall being larger than this unit. The unit is 3" high by 5.25" wide (Amazon lists the packaging dimensions, not the unit's dimensions).
