Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lux TX9000TS Touch Screen Seven-Day Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: This Product Is Very Good! Summary: 5 Stars
I have 3 zones. I had the weekday/weekend programable LUX given to me by the oil company that I use. However, that model was too limited in features. I needed more flexibility So, I bought the TX9000TS at the store to try it out.
First and foremost, I believe in reading the manual first before attempting any installation, in the event I miss something. By reading the manual, approximately 15 minutes, I was able program and replace the old unit with the new thermostat within 45 minutes.
One of the concerns I had about going with the Honeywell, is the clicking sounds, everytime the thermostat kicks on or off. So I decided to upgrade the LUX thermostat that I have. Subsequently, I order two more TX9000TSs for the remaining zones. I was able to program and replace the other units within 20 minutes for each unit.
Now I have much more control over the scheduled temperatures for each zone, on any day of the week. My wife finds it easy to override the temperatures, more importantly, I don't have to turn on the lights in the middle of the night in order make any adjustments, because of the display light. The characters on the screen are very large and easy to read.
Again, because I read the manual before installation, it made it very easy to understand the wiring specifications.
The only draw back to this is that I am using it for heating only. While I did read some reviews that some people were having difficulties with the cooling systems, I am almost sure it was because they didn't read the manual ahead of time. And for those who were experiencing the installation all together, well all I can suggest is really read the manual. You can find all of the information about the product in that booklet.
Customer Review: Solid thermostat for 1/2 the price Summary: 5 Stars
I'm giving this product five starts for the price. If it cost as much as most of its competitors with similar features, I'd probably give it four at most.
The thing that sold me on this thermostat, besides the much lower price tag, is the fact that it allows you to set your desired temperature sensitivity. Some other thermostats (e.g. Honeywell) have it pre-set to 0.5 degrees (I believe), and don't allow you to change it. That means you may save electricity, but you're killing your AC unit by constantly starting and stopping it. The default on this unit is 2 degrees, and I left it at that, but it is possible to change it.
I also like the the little knobs at the bottom of the thermostat (hidden by a slightly too-loose cover). They allow for old-fashioned fan/AC/heat setting. But the touch screen is nice too, and setting the temperature on it is what actually turns on the heater/AC, obviously.
The backlight is nice. I read you can make it stay on permanently, but I'm not sure if it's using the juice from the batteries if you do.
Speaking of batteries, they are not included for some reason... You'll need 2 AA's.
The installation was a total breeze. I didn't need instructions, and swapped out my 30 yr old analog for this baby in about 15 mins, including drilling and leveling.
I've noticed sometimes it thinks for a while before switching the AC on once I set the temperature. 2 minutes max. But more times than not it turns right on.
Needless to say I'm a happy customer. For half the price and more features than a comparable Honeywell, this is a great buy in my opinion.
Customer Review: Excellent Customer Service from Lux! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been so pleased by this product. It was very easy to install. The large touchscreen and display size made programming a breeze. I didn't think it was possible to really like a thermostat, but this one is so easy to interface with and so attractive that I'm actually enjoying it a bit. The fact that it is a touchscreen is the best part--if I had to buy another thermostat and this model were not an option, I would definitely look for another that had a touchscreen. The unit is working flawlessly and keeping the house at a consistent temperature--much better than my old mercury thermostat.
Considering all the features of the TX9000TS, I think Lux offers this product at a very reasonable price. I have found that similar touchscreen thermostats from other companies cost much more.
Finally, I ordered this unit from a third-party seller on Amazon. On the screen there was a small defect in the coating of the touchscreen itself. I wasn't sure if the blip was supposed to be there, so I got in touch with Lux Customer Service. The response was almost immediate, and very helpful. They made every effort to understand what I was trying to describe, and once we determined that there was a problem, they agreed to send out a new one with a prepaid return envelope for my defective unit. I was so surprised at Lux's high level of customer service and their willingness to stand behind their product, since it is usually akin to pulling teeth in order to get problems like this resolved. As a result of the interaction I had with Lux, I would definitely favor their brand of thermostats in the future.
Customer Review: Great thermostat with some minor interface issues Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased four of these (4 heating zones, 2 cooling zones) to replace some early 90's Honeywell mercury based thermostats that came with the house I purchased. I have never installed a thermostat before, but it's actually not that bad, as long as you know what each wire in your old system is. In my case they were not labeled, but I was able to figure it out between researching the wire colors online (you can't always trust the color, but its a good starting point when you don't know) and a bit of trial and error. After installing one, the other three were easy. Lux provides stickers in the package so you can label the wires for future reference, which is a really nice touch.
The thermostat itself is very large, but looks fine on the wall. It's very simple to program - each day has four time settings - Morning, Day, Evening, and Night. You can configure when each time setting begins (for example, the default is that "Morning" begins at 6:00am). For each day of the week, you can configure the temperature for each time setting. The only quirky thing, noted by other reviewers, is that you have to tap the "Yes" button on each temperature to save it while you're programming. It's really easy to forget to do that, so it pays to go back and check after you've set it up.
The thermostat also has a number of advanced features, but I have not even started to explore them. If you're planning on purchasing one of these, Amazon is a good place to order it, since they're about $20 cheaper here than at the major home supply retailers.
Customer Review: Great thermo Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this thermostat about a month back and it arrived in perfect condition. The installation is essentially foolproof; just make sure you follow the instructions concerning wire connections and you're golden.
There are some complaints in other reviews concerning the ease of programming this particular thermostat, and while it's not the most intuitive system in the world, it only takes a few minutes of playing with it to figure out how it works. The guide doesn't do as good a job of describing the procedure as it could, but like I said, it won't take you long to get it. Once the programming is complete it works great! The display is large enough to easily decipher what is happening and the touch screen is very responsive. It's also very easy to adjust the temperature in the middle of a programmed period of time. For example, you get home early and the temperature is still set either high or low to save those dollars...just tap the current temperature and up/down arrows appear to adjust the temp on the fly. That easy.
My heating system (gas furnace) has been extremely responsive to the Lux thermo...no delay in temperature adjustment. The previously installed thermo seemed to take forever to actually do what I told it to do, continuing to pump out heat or refuse to start minutes after adjusting the settings. When I move the temp up on the new unit, you instantly hear that reassuring "click" of response and feel the air blow in no time. A fantastic product through and through.
