Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lux TX9000TS Touch Screen Seven-Day Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: Minutes to install-Works perfectly Summary: 5 Stars
Couldn't be happier. I did buy mine off Ebay but the price here for a new unit is a great one. I have a oil furnace with a 3 1/2 ton AC unit. The old dial was a honeywell that you had to turn the dial, and couldn't see at night.
Hooked the white, yellow and green wire. Then attached the red with a jumper exactly as the honeywell was hooked up. Took maybe 10 min max since I had to cut a slightly larger hole in the drywall for positioning. You might get lucky depending on what you replace. Make sure you turn off the electric to the existing thermostat as they say, just in case you touch any wires. But just a few words to the wise.
If you need to set it to (I bought used) default, that has 4 times and temps for EACH day. We didn't notice @ 1st but the heat was going from 62-70 during the day. Found out we didn't have it set to hold. Someone is always home, so we prefer manual.
Also, there is a DELAY of 2-5 min if you go from heat to cool or vice versa. I'm using heat right now but called the toll free # just to make sure, and it's hooked up correctly. That's pretty cool 2 that even though I bought it used, they answered my question.
The light at night is the bomb, and the fact you can pop the unit off the wired back to do programming instead of standing there. Very happy I read the reviews and bought this unit. Even the wife likes it and she isn't much on new gadgets.
Customer Review: Easy to install, lots of features Summary: 5 Stars
This was a very simple install for my house. It's more attractive on the wall than the one it replaced, and so far works quite well. It's only been about three weeks since I put it in so I can't say yet how much it helps with energy bills, but I'm sure I will see a difference if just because manually adjusting the temperature is something I would forget to do sometimes. I really like the blue backlight, but then blue is my favorite color.
So long as you read the instructions, setting the thermostat is not at all difficult although there are still some features I haven't yet messed with, like filter settings. You do have to watch and be sure you press "Yes" at the appropriate times. In that respect it doesn't really seem very intuitive, but I still managed to get it figured out in only a few minutes reading the instructions.
Each day has four "zones" to set. Even if you only want two different settings, like one for daytime and one for nighttime say on the weekends, you do have to set all four, or it will default to whatever settings it ships with. It has a very nice "copy" feature so if you want it set the same for several days, like weekdays when you're gone to work, you can set it up for Monday and just copy it for Tuesday through Friday. Overriding the program is very easy, and I really like the touch-screen operation.
Customer Review: Love This Thermostat Best Out There For Price Summary: 5 Stars
I got this thermostat for my new home that I moved into in March 2010. We got rid of the Honeywell MANUAL thermostat that came with the house ASAP. I wanted to get a thermostat that was programmable and also easy to use. My favorite addition to this thermostat is the (+-3) degree SWING VALUE. I love being able to limit the use of the furnace. Rather than the furnace kicking on every 5-10 minutes when it is 20-30 degrees out I am able to stretch it to about 20 minutes for each cycle. I know that is saving me NATURAL GAS and also Electricity (by the furnace not kicking on). Also like the programmability. I was doing all the temperature settings manually ... Come home and turn on. Turn down when going to bed. Now I programmed it and do not even have to worry about it. I read about every review on this site and some people stated that it was hard to program. If you hit the "DAY" in the programming you will skip day to day and do not have to go though EACH and EVERY DAY setting to get to one another. Just have to read the manual and it states all this out. I have also enabled the SMART SETTING so that was when I set it to 65 degrees at 6:00PM it will be 65 degrees at 6:00 pm. Not just that it will start heating to 65 degrees at that time. I love that part also. Consumer Reports does not steer you wrong! Love this thermostat!
Customer Review: Great Thermostat Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great thermostat for the price. I have a new Amana gas forced air heat and central AC system with one zone. I know absolutely nothing about HVAC and it only took about 30min to take the old Honeywell non programmable thermostat off in install this. Just pay attention to where the wires were connected on the old thermostat before you remove them. Programming is pretty straight forward although it is a bit tedious to have to go through all the days and times one by one without being able to skip whole days or go back (if you pass the day and time you were looking for you have to go through the whole week to get back). All in all though, it does what it is supposed to do and has nice features. I like being able to set how many degrees the temp can fluctuate before the system kicks on thereby reduces cycling and stress on the system. The hold and override functions are nice (hold keeps the temp constant through all programming, override will switch back to the programmed temperature once it hits the next programmed time segment. Being able to switch from heating only to cooling only is a no brainer, but apparently some other thermostats don't allow this. The filter monitor is also a great function. It looks very nice too! Can't ask for more.
Customer Review: Easy to set-up, easy to use Summary: 5 Stars
Product was received quickly and met expectations - which were high based on the other reviews. I found it to be important to label the wires that were on my old thermostat base since there were two sets of red and white wires in place of a standard four wire (red, white, yellow, green). I followed the instructions, but I'm an instruction person. The product was easy to install. It only took about 20 minutes from the time I started until the unit was installed and programmed.
It's physically larger than I expected, and comes with an optional large backing plate to cover up any unpainted areas, etc. The programmed temperature is easy to override for any given period. Simply touch the temperature on the screen, an up and down arrow appears to make and adjustment. This was easy to teach my family members and comes in handy when someone arrives home early from work or school. It reverts right back to the programmed settings at the next programmed time setting.
It did take us a few nights to adjust to the cooler night time temperatures, but now it's not even noticeable. Overall I say this unit is an excellent purchase.
