Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lux TX9000TS Touch Screen Seven-Day Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: Works fine - installation literally a snap Summary: 5 Stars
Was very easy to install except that I had to go on-line to verify which terminals to connect in my VERY old house. It would be helpful if the instruction sheet would identify the terminals by function (actual descriptive words) as well as with the code letters (which do make sense once one understands what the functions are). But this overall was a very minor issue. The ability to physically separate the "computer" from the terminal board and literally snap them together once wires have been connected and the computer programmed is a major advantage. This makes the wire connections accessible without struggling and leads to a very quick and easy installation. A large auxiliary backing plate was included to cover any gaping holes in the wall from previous thermostats and I initially used this but ultimately decided installation looked neater without. The plate is simply trapped between the terminal board and the wall, so it's very easy to change one's mind on this without having to fill screw holes etc. Have used the thermostat now for several months and it has worked flawlessly and is very easy to program.
Customer Review: Lux TX9000TS Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great DIY product. I've never changed a thermostat, nor even looked at the backing of one. The one I had was a Totaline P374-1000 programmable. The unit came with the condo I bought and it worked for almost 9 years. After removing it, I researched and decided on the Lux unit due to the wonderful reviews. I read the instruction manual and attached all the wires to the right locations and then it just booted up perfectly and turned on the A/C unit on the first try. The one thing I will say is that if you've never replaced a thermostat, just make sure you understand the wiring as there a quite a few. This needs 2 AA batteries in order to operate as well, so you'll be changing them out after awhile. The great thing is the touch screen and large numbers, but the problem I have with it, is that it's not all that intuitive in terms of programming. I had to tinker with it quite a bit to understand the logic of it. The latest thermostats may be similar in regards to functionality, but it was quite different from the Totaline. Good product and I've had it for a month.
Customer Review: No Other Choice Summary: 5 Stars
I don't know what else I can add to the other reviews. I installed the product last fall before the heating season, yes easy to install but you have to mark your old wires before you remove the old unit. Also one reason I'm writing now is the "built-in" timer function. When I set the unit to "cool" the A/C didn't turn on. I did this before I left for work thinking I was going to come home to a cool house but instaed came home to a warm house & the prospect of trying to figure out what I did wrong. The only variable is my installation of the thermostsat. I removed the unit & found there was no other way to wire it. When I snapped it back on the fan started but not the A/C Compressor. When the timer timed out the A/C started working...& yes it IS in the documentation. Would definitely buy again..Amazon was cheaper by far than my local Menard's store! No shipping, no tax!! I shop Amazon because of the reviews like this & can always check out something before I buy. This unit has GREAT reviews.
You will not be disappointed with this.
Customer Review: Top notch, easy to use, very readable Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this thermostat to replace a Honeywell thermostat for our home, and found it easy to install and program with the included instructions and multiple wiring option diagrams. This thermostat is more easily read than the original - the screen and the characters are much larger than the unit we replaced. Temperatures were kept accurately for well over a year, in 25 - 115 F outside temperatures. We were also attracted by the Energy Star and great ratings on a number of 'net sites.
Now we are in a new home - I have purchased this thermostat once more, to replace the hard-to-read and counterintuitive builder- installed Honeywell that came installed in the house. The replacement, even of a new thermostat, was a complete no-brainer for me, and this unit is far easier to read by folks who need larger characters and / or a lighted panel.
Googling will also reveal a download of the instruction manual in 8 x 11 page form PDF (6 pages)- good backup and larger print.
Customer Review: Very Satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
When oil prices shot through the roof I decided now was the time to buy a programable thermostat. I began looking for a programmable digital thermostat and had done quite a bit of research and read a lot of reviews. Actually between Consumers Reports and the reviews here on Amazon are what convinced me to buy the Lux TX9000TS as the unit I wanted to try. Because of our family work schedules I knew I wanted a 7 day programmable thermostat. After receiving the unit I read the manual, installed the batteries, and programmed the thermostat. Before installing it I placed it next to a digital thermometer I have to monitor temps in my living room and adjusted the offset to match my room digital thermometer. I found that following the directions for installation was not hard at all. Two things I do not like was the small print in the manual, and the little tabs used to hook the unit to the wall mounting plate. Other than that I like the unit well enough that I am now buying my second one for my first floor.
