Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lux WIN100 Heating & Cooling Programmable Outlet ThermostatCustomer Review: Above and Beyond the Call of Duty Summary: 5 Stars
Once in awhile a product comes along that works better than described, and this is one of them. I am usually a tough sell, but when some company produces something that works this well, they deserve accolades. It will run a space heater all winter, and then you can use it in a window fan during spring, to blow cooler air into the house. When it gets hotter for the summer, you can use it on the window air conditioner. Then you can use it in the fall to control the fan in the window again. This device is reliable, sturdy, and has served me without fail for a year.
You have to use it intelligently, and whenever I switch from heating to cooling, I push the little reset button on it. It has a bug or two in it, but I do not use a programmed situation, only setting it for cool or heat, on 'Hold' and letting it go at that. It seems to me it is to be highly recommended, and worth the money for being able to control those heating and cooling items supplied with worthless thermostats for controlling them. It is digital and seems to be very accurate. I cannot recommend it enough, and would give it ten stars if I could, for actually doing what it says it will do, which is getting to be unusual in the American market!
Customer Review: Green Solution Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this device mentioned in another review and I just had to give it a try. To be honest I didn't know that this existed! We live in a drafty house built in 1936, so central AC is out of the question. We unfortunately are at the mercy of window units. Before, I was trying to monitor our window box AC unit with programmable timers, having the unit go off every hour for 15 minutes. But it never really worked, either we were too hot or too cold, never comfortable.
Last night I plugged this in and set the temperature to 75 and would you believe it, it worked! For the first time in weeks I woke up without a stuffy nose and cough (from being chilled out), and it was easy to get out of bed to a pleasant room, not jumping up to run and turn the AC unit off.
I highly recommend this to anyone who has to deal with the pains of window units, which do not regulate temperature; this is a great gift for anyone where temperature conformability is vital. Although I was wary at the initial price, the energy star rating, the regulation of use and the peace of mind of overall health and comfort are defiantly worth it.
Hope this helps! :)
Customer Review: Good idea for a product Summary: 5 Stars
This LUX product has the same features as the LUX thermostat for out home furnace, which has worked fine for years. It has the same 4 periods per day that can be set to different temperatures as well as weekends that can also be different. Also the 4 periods per day can be whenever you want. This is a good idea for a product. Most space heaters have poor thermostatic controls, so just leaving the heater on and having it controlled through this product would be far more accurate. (NOTE: Won't work with a digital controlled heater that would not come on if you unplugged it then plugged it back in....which is basically what this does.) We use it to run an "Eco-heater" in baby's room to keep it at exactly 70 degrees at night so we can turn off the furnace at night. I set the day periods to be at the lowest possible temperature, which essentially keeps the heater off during the day. I never have to touch it. Good price too.

Customer Review: Quality at reasonable price Summary: 5 Stars
I had purchased a room heater (quartz rod type) which had a conventional bimetallic strip thermostat. The patent for this type of thermostat dates back to the 19th century, and was cycling on and off in an erratic manner when running. I opened it and rewired the circuit to bypass the bimetallic and simply plugged the line for the heater into the WIN100 which plugged into the 120v AC house circuit. After programming the WIN100, I just turn the main on-off power switch on the heater and the WIN100 controls the temperature by cycling the power on and off. If I want to shut the unit off, I just turn the unit power off and let the WIN 100 call as usual. When heat is needed, I turn the heater power on, and the WIN100 continues to call for power to the heater which is set to power on. No biggie in logic, and a simple modification. I personally believe bimetallic thermostats are a hazard and should be taken off the market.
Customer Review: Excellent way to Save Energy by just heating one Room Summary: 5 Stars
This Thermostat works very well. It is easy to operate and set. It is good for controlling the temperature in one room of the house. I hate to wake up at night in bed shivering. With this thermostat and a small heater, I have the same temperature all night. I sleep better. I set the thermostat timer so that I will only turn on a half hour before I go to bed and will not go on after I wake up in the morning. I can set this thermostat to keep the temperature from varying more than only plus or minus one degree or it can be set to allow the temperature to go plus or minus 2, 3 or 4 degrees. Their is no heater that has a thermostat that works as good as this. Thermostats do not work good when they are attached to the heater or air conditioner. If your heater or air conditioner uses less than 15 amps, it can be switched on and off with this thermostat.
I love it. I sleep better and it saves money and energy.
