Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lynk 360100 Two-Tier Wood ShelfCustomer Review: Works for me Summary: 5 Stars
It took a fair amount of searching before this shoe rack (versatile enough for numerous other functions) appeared. Amazon's price can't be beat (check out the competition's), and it replaces two metal racks that even the normally vigilent scavengers didn't bother with after I left them on the curb the night before the city's trucks make their run. For men's shoes, there's no point kidding yourself: those racks that are bars with nothing but empty space in between are impractical. The heels on men's shoes are not sufficiently high to "balance" (let alone secure) the shoe on the rack's upper rear bar. Moreover, even some of the metal racks with grated bottoms become problematic once they are pushed close to the wall, causing the shoe to touch the wall ahead of the rack with predictable, topsy-turvy results. Finally, through trial and error I discovered that the metal racks rarely held the number of advertised pairs when it came to men's shoes. And there usually was't enough space under the bottom rack for another row of shoes on the floor.
None of these problems was an issue with this Lynx wood shelf. Additionally, the item comes with four little wooden pins, or reinforcing "rods," should you wish added stability. Not necessary--at least for the two-tier size, but probably a good idea if you opt for an additional, identical two-tier rack to stack on top of this one. As it is, the height is perfect for my needs (any higher and it would be encroaching on my pants hanging down just above it). The wood, as a couple of other reviewers have observed, is hardly teak or mahogany (I noticed a few cracks during assembly, which requires less than five minutes), but the idea isn't to have a valuable heirloom or showpiece in your closet.
These shelves are eminently practical, and they're more stable, let alone better-looking, than all of their tubular thin-metal counterparts.
