Tools and Hardware Reviews of MAGLITE SP2209H 2-AA Cell Mini LED Flashlight with Holster, GrayCustomer Review: Very Good Flashlight! Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this light for about four months now, as I got is as an X-Mas present in 07. It's a BIG step up from the non-LED version in terms of brightness and longevity. I'll admit that I am just a bit disappointed in the increase in overall length, but on the whole it's a very good trade off. I usually keep mine in the car, but I've been carrying it for a couple of days in the leather open-ended holster that Mag was selling through Target a year or so back -- and it's a huge improvement over the nylon case that ships with the light. I would also agree with some of the other reviewers here that this is NOT a Sure Fire replacement flashlight -- I have one of those also (a G2), and it does long distance much much better than this one from Mag. But for distances of 25 feet or less, or used in the stand-up candle mode in a bedroom, this is a GREAT light. I'd say it's probably not ideal for the nightstand to be used for the run-to-the-little-boys-room-in-the-middle-of-the-night, because it would seem to be too bright with sleepy eyes. What I would say that it is ideal for is the car, as an emergency light because it's going to be more than adequate for any roadside emergencies, and it should last a long time in that capacity. Don't forget that the AA's can be replaced easily and cheaply in a pinch, where the other lights (ie Sure Fire and Streamlight) need the CR123 batteries -- not easy to come by at the local Circle K or 7-11. For the price (around $20), it's a very good flashlight of excellent quality. I've never had any problems with any of the Mag products I've owned, and I've had a few. If you like what you see here, then it's worth the price of admission to have one - especially if you have the older AA non-LED light and like it, you'll love this one.
Customer Review: Great Power, Very Useful! One minor Complaint Summary: 4 Stars
I think these LED lights are great. They provide exceptional light, as compared to standard bulbs. I can light up things nearly all the way across an acre of land, and can totally flood closer areas with bright light. It is amazing that such lighting power comes out of such a small unit. I can't imagine needing the larger size for general use around a house or modest-sized property.
Also, the light is very white, not yellow like traditional bulbs. To me, the whiteness of these LED bulbs is much more appealing, and is easier on the eyes.
Mine has been lightly used, so I do not know how well the bulb will peform once it begins to burn out (if it does). But, I will gladly replace the bulb or buy another one of these lights if that ever becomes a problem. They work that well.
The metal housing is tough as nails, and it's small enough to go anywhere.
The only complaint I have is the different light setting that are activated by turning the light on/off repeatedly. For example, if you turn the light on, then off, and back on quickly, it goes to a dimmer setting. Do it again, and it goes to a flashing setting. This can be annoying when you just want some light quickly, but accidentally twist the top when trying to use the unit.
Other than that, I love this LED flashlight, and strongly prefer it over normal bulbed lights of similar size.
Customer Review: Maglite Mini LED - Gray Summary: 4 Stars
Nice flashlight. AMERICAN MADE and reasonably priced. Plus, it is a Maglite. Everyone is familiar with the feel and operation of them, nothing has changed except for the better. Nice bright light. This is NOT a tactical light, but bright enough for most needs. I have a Surefire that I use at work and sometimes it is TOO bright for the task at hand, not to mention the cost of the batteries. This light strikes a nice balance between dull incandescent flashlights and full-on tactical 100+ lumen flashlights, plus it uses the ubiquitous "AA" battery. For an AMERICAN made LED flashlight for around $20 it is an amazing bargain.
Customer Review: Wonderful, bright light Summary: 4 Stars
Like the incandescent flashlight that preceded it, the MAGLITE SP2209H 2-AA Cell Mini LED Flashlight with Holster, Gray is well-made, easy to use, handy, and bright. In fact, this flashlight has become my "do all" unit. I can use it walking, on my bicycle, with a little ingenuity attached to a headband, or around camp.
Highly recommended, I hope the battery life proves to be as long as the unit is good.
Customer Review: So far, so good Summary: 4 Stars
This is the second one of these I've owned. The previous one developed an intermittently working on/off switch after about a year of satisfactory service. Hopefully it was a fluke and the new one will last longer. Performance is excellent. Bright and brilliantly white light. "Focus-able" LED beam is a much appreciated feature.
