Customer Review: Every little bit of security helps

We don't live in a crime-ridden area, but with the economy tanking and monitored security systems being so expensive, we're doing a few things on our own to better protect our property.
This security bar is easy to use and definitely gives peace of mind. It comes ready to go; you just extend it so the base is about 16 inches from the door with the top bit snug under the doorknob, and lock the bar at that length. Using it is easy too, just set it under the doorknob and kick the base towards the door to secure it. A sideways kick releases it. We're using it on an uncarpeted area.
I wouldn't use this item on a patio door as it's too easy to defeat simply by removing the door, something thieves are good at.
My only complaint with this item is with Amazon, not the item itself. It was delivered in a huge box stuffed with an astounding amount of paper. The waste appalled us. Is it too much to ask that Amazon be more environmentally friendly when packaging items, and find appropriately sized boxes rather than just grabbing the first box that will contain an item?

This item is very well-made and does the job. We bought this for my daughter's NYC apartment. She already has two locks, but the Super has one key, and who knows what else could happen, so we wanted her to be more secure. This item would prevent anyone from pushing in the door. My husband tried to open the door with this in place and he could not. It is very easy to adjust to fit, and that has to be done only the first time. After that, my daughter just easily puts it against the doorknob and it is all set. She has wood floors and the rubber grip holds very well against the wood. I liked that we could also use it as a horizontal security bar, since she has a narrow hallway (the width of the doorway) in the entry, she had the option to use it horizontally, but it works well as intended, against the doorknob, at a 45 degree angle. Easy to store when not in use (ie: when she is not there). I definitely recommend this product.Customer Review: Great product at a great price!

I use this for extra security and peace of mind. I set it up with around a 65-to-70 degree or so angle to the door, which is more upright than the instructions suggest. I use it on a hardwood floor, which allows it to get a strong grip at its base. (If you use this on carpet, I think the grip would be more likely to move a bit as one tries to force the door open against it, but I have not tested this on carpet.) I tested it by trying to force the door open from the outside, and found that it was strongest at that more-upright angle vs. what's in the instructions. I was not able to force the door open with this device in place at that 65-to-70 degree angle, even though the door deadbolt was not locked during this test. I think this is a great product and a great value for some peace of mind.Customer Review: Attempted Home Invasion

My husband first bought this and I laughed. A couple of times, I forgot my garage door opener and tried to get the front door open but we could never get through with the bar in place. Then just 5 days ago we had an attemped home invasion while we were sleeping. I'm happy to report the bar did it's job and although they repeatedly tried to kick in our double doors, the crooks were unsuccesful. Unfortunately the police didn't get here soon enough to catch them. I'm not laughing anymore. The security bar kept my family safe & secure and I'm very grateful. If you keep the bar at about an 80 degree angle and make sure it's tightly on the door handle, you'll be safe. I have now recommended this product to several friends who know of the attempted invasion.Customer Review: Makes great gift/shipped quickly

I purchased several of these for Christmas gifts. I have something similar and all my old roommates would borrow my door jam when I was gone. It just adds a little extra security which is comforting. This is by far one of the cheapest prices I have seen for this product. It shipped extremely quickly - it arrived before I expected.
(Wrapping this item is tricky. Have the wrappying extend about 2" from the bottom foot and then about 4 - 5 inches from the top. Wrap the paper around several times - it won't look extremely smooth. Fold in the bottom paper - like a normal gift - so it can stand flat. Then time a ribbon around the top and fringe the exta on top. It looks cute and it's easy to stand/prop it up till it's time to give your gift.)
