I've purchased a number of different TSA approved locks over the years, always looking for combination locks since I tend to lose keys.
Being able to set your own combination is a must for someone with short term memory loss like myself.
Since the U.S. has been outsourcing it's manufacturing, name brands rarely mean anything anymore. My try with Samsonite, Swiss Army, & Travel Pro branded locks produced subpar performance and setting your own combination is a crapshoot at best.
Setting your combination with this lock is easy. The wired cable is much easier to work with than the solid metal U shaped lock.
I've used these locks on five different trips with no problems. I've given them as Christmas presents to friends who travel and all have had great success with this lock.
I highly recommend.

I purchased this lock over the Christmas holiday due to me getting a Wii for Christmas and needing to carry it home in my luggage. I was nervous that someone would steal the game from my luggage if I didnt have a lock. To my surprise I came across this TSA approved lock that gave me the security I needed to lock my things away but also allowed them access to my luggage should they need to inspect it. Turns out, they did have to go through my things and were able to do so without busting my personal lock. Highly recommended for a frequent airline traveler to secure your things. Works great, very easy to set, stronger than the standard travel lock shackle. One suggestion is to design in an indicator to show if it has been opened, but that is likely in the works. Some others rated this lock for other uses than travel and I feel its intention is for luggage travel security; TSA means it is made for travel, not foot lockers and gym bags. You can order a 1/4" shackle model for larger hasps. I recommend this over any thin shackle type, which break during travel and can be easily cut or twisted open with pliers. Great lock, ordered two, a lot stronger than it looks in the picture. I plan on using these on my backpack in Europe. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to select the color I wanted. Instead of black I got red and blue. Maybe I'm just picky, but now they wont match next to each other and will probably attract more attention than if they were just plain black.
The lock works just fine and the numbers are easy enough to use. Just follow the instructions to create your code, and for convenience, just have it off by one number so you can easily unlock it.

This is the best lock out there in my experience. We had 2 bags that were checked in at the Johannesburg airport. Someone tried to get into both bags. They easily broke one of our brand new locks which was a different model. We found that other lock inside its ravaged suitcase (and many items were stolen from that bag). By contrast, this particular Master Lock had numerous cut marks on it, but it held up well and did not break. This model of Master Lock combines a metal shell and heavily twisted wires in a way that makes it withstand assaults very well.
