I bought this for hiding my key while I go surfing. The non-remote key for my Honda Ridgeline is very large. My wetsuit pocket won't hold it and neither will a leash pocket. Using a ring on the wetsuit zipper is a hassle too, so I figured I'd give this a go. It won't hold the Remote Key, that's for sure, but the spare non-remote fits diagonally just fine. I read another surfer's review of this lock case and I'm not sure what his problem is. Maybe his fingers aren't nimble after a cold session? In SoCal, this works fine for me. I latch it on the tie-down in my truck bed. It's secure and while it's not hidden, it really isn't too noticable. I've read other reviews that criticized this unit getting stuck. I had that happen too, but with a little lubricant, it's now working fine. I guess I'll need to maintain it because of the salt air, water, and sand that will get in the unit. I've also read about the combination being "accidently" reset. I think it would be pretty difficult to do by accident, but if it did happen, the default combination would get the lock open again. Whether you're looking for a place to store a spare or trying to sell a house, this lock box fits the bill. True to their reputation, Master Lock has made an incredibly tough device. As one would hope for in a product such as this, no would-be thief is going to have the time or tools to get at the contents in this case. The whole gadget is very heavy for its size, obviously a plus in a security product, and feels utterly solid. As for the compartment size, you could easily fit several normal house keys or even one of today's over-sized car keys/key fobs.
Using the device is easy as well, with simple instructions for setting your own unique 4-digit code. The code dials have a sliding plastic cover to keep out the elements, although I doubt it's entirely necessary given the quality of construction for this tool.
Even the price is right, currently about $17 from Amazon. (Local hardware stores might try to charge you twice as much!) You might find a cheaper option out there, but it probably won't be nearly as sturdy.
Overall this product does its job perfectly with no complaints, major or minor, and is a great value!

i bought it to secure spare keys: vehicle and house keys, i only use it on trips or vacations, i secure it underneath my family van, where you have to be basically looking from underneath the car to see where it is at, i keep it there so that i can have access to spare keys on my trip/vacation gets hectic and loosing keys or something can happen, i have busted one open before by way of a very heavy hammer it will damage this lock, but also keep in mind i had it on a concrete cement hammering on it to open it, it will deter most, since you will not have anything behind it as it wont be on cement and a person cant get the same type leverage swinging at it from underneath the van, buy 1, and dont forget to take it off when you go to a mechanic or who has to go underneath your car, this way they dont find out your address and go steal your car during the night. fits up to 5 keys easily, easy to reset code, get it here on amazon much cheeper than home depot or lowes thats for sureCustomer Review: Master #5400D Key Storage Box

This is the coolest thing. I have been looking for some way to store a key outside safely for a very long time. (I don't intend to hang it from the door handle.) The box itself is very strong and far superior to the push button type made by GE and others. The appearance of it in the photo is deceiving. It does not show the cover nor does it does not give the impression of how strong and well made it is. One other nice feature is the case has a plastic/rubber coating which makes it not only gentle against surfaces but easy to grip in nasty weather. For example if it was snowing outside and the temperature freezing or all wet, you could grip this without gloves. It's really a nice thing to have. I am going to get another and hook it to something under my car. I hate it when I lose a car key... Amazon has by far the best price and the reviews were extremely helpful helping me choose this item.Customer Review: problem solved

Actually, three problems solved: 'hiding' keys at apartment and 'church', and doing so without breaking budget. Locking myself out of apartment (keys inside, no resident manager) is no longer a problem. Opening/closing 'church' now possible by sharing lock-code, rather than uncontrolled distribution of keys. That's two problems solved. The third problem was solving these two problems effectively and inexpensively. Ability to choose/change the combination provides potentially valuable increased access control option.
So-called latch-key kids might appreciate this product in lieu of the 'key-on-a-string' approach.
