Tools and Hardware Reviews of Timex TX1001 6.5-Inch Tube ThermometerCustomer Review: room thermometer Summary: 5 Stars
Excellent light weight thermomter to hang on wall or sit on shelf. Great price!!
Customer Review: Decent thermometer; here's how to calibrate it. Summary: 4 Stars
Considering the really low price, this is a great thermometer for indoor use. However, to read it, you need to get fairly close and look straight on. If you're looking for an inexpensive outdoor thermometer to put right outside a window, then a 6-inch or larger dial thermometer is much better. Inexpensive dial thermometers use a bi-metallic coil, and they are accurate within a couple of degrees F.
As far as accuracy of this liquid thermometer, it may be off by a couple of degrees, but you can calibrate it by just putting the bulb and bottom half of the thermometer in a big bowl of stirred-up ice cubes in water for a few minutes. There is a red line on the thermometer at 32F/0C that is labeled "FREEZE." If the red column is above the line, then you'll just subtract that difference in degrees from any reading when you use the thermometer. If you are below the red FREEZE line, then add the difference to your readings.
It is possible to slide the bulb and tube up or down in the retainers in order to exactly match up the reading and the marked freeze line. However, the retainers hold the tube pretty firmly, so beware that you could break the tube or break off the bulb if you do this.
Customer Review: Basic thermometer Summary: 4 Stars
I bought three of these thermometers to keep track of the temperature in my attic, basement, and garage. I got what I was expecting: a decent thermometer at a good price. One drawback was that Timex only provided one screw to put in the wall and then to have the thermometer hang loosely on that screw. I drilled a hole through the face of the unit to securely screw it to the wall, an easy and effective fix.
Customer Review: I should have picked a larger one Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great little (emphasis on little) thermometer that does exactly what it's supposed to. I put it on our screened in porch, about three feet away from the glass door, but I have trouble reading it. As I said in the title: I should have picked a larger one.
Customer Review: Bought 5 to settle office temp dispute Summary: 4 Stars
I bought 5 of these to settle the too hot vs. too cold arguments in a large office space. They all came out of the box at the same temp so that was a good sign. Great deal for the < than 2 buck a piece price...
