Tools and Hardware Reviews of McCulloch MC-1275 Heavy-Duty Steam Cleaner

Customer Review: What other steam cleaners only wish they could become
Summary: 5 Stars

Well after seeing those little hand-held steam cleaners all over the place, I decided having a steam cleaner would be worth it. Of course never ever trusting an `As Seen On TV' product, I ran across this McCulloch steam cleaner. I noticed two very positive reviews on Amazon so I decided to order one.

My first impression upon opening the box was very positive. All the steam fittings were a heavy copper and tight fitting. The plastic hose, extension pieces, and accessories were all very heavy plastic and looked like they would hold up quite well. I also found it interesting that they would bother to package a long shaft screwdriver (a pretty decent one) for the solitary screw needed in assembly (and by assembly I mean attaching a small plastic bracket for holding the handle when not in use).

After using it for a couple of days I was just as impressed. On 48 oz of water (max amount) I could easily use the steam cleaner for the 40 mins estimated in the manual or longer. This is not just 40 mins of spot use either...I can literally use the trigger lock and have constant steam shooting out the nozzle for almost the entire time.

I don't recommend one of these cleaners for anyone wanting something for small spot cleaning (as the heat up time doesn't make that practical), or planning to make cleaning much faster. Cleaning my stove top, covered with baked on/burnt splotches from my most recent batch of chili, took roughly 30 percent more time (Although it did get it cleaner then I ever think it was before).

Over the past few days I've used the cleaner on my floors, sinks, essentially everything in the bathroom, and refrigerator with good results. It is a bit noisy to use, but no louder then the average vacuum cleaner. Also the attachments and handle can get a bit warm, but they've never been uncomfortable to use.

If you want an alternative to using chemical cleaners and don't mind having another household gadget around, I highly recommend buying one and believe they should hold up to years of use.

Customer Review: IMPRESSIVE!

I decided to buy this machine after reading all of the favorable reviews by other Amazon shoppers. To say the least, most everyone seemed to love it, so I had a pretty good idea what to expect. I must say that the loudness that many people made reference to was not as loud as I expected, and seemed to fall in line with the steaming aspect. In fact, the hissing is reassuring that something's going on and you're left with no doubt that a heck of a lot of steam is coming out of this thing.

Very easy to set up and use. Attach the carrying handle/hose and nozzle holder (once piece), fill and go. It does take about ten minutes to heat up, so plan accordingly. The little nozzle with the brush is amazing, and it's this attachment that makes the noise, but what a steaming tool! I steamed my feather bed and it fluffed and removed odor from it all at once. Then came the bathroom. Once reviewer said "steam and wipe as you go", and that's exactly how it goes. I used the squeegee on the shower stall walls and the small nozzle with brush on all the other hard-to-reach places and then wiped. Excellent job. Then on to the toilet, sinks, vanity and mirror. The steam cleaned the whole mirror and I didn't even have to wipe it. Then came the floor with the floor attachment and the microfiber floor cloth. Aboslutely no soaking of the floors and the steam is more than abundant. I'm trying to reduce the amount of chemicals used in the house, and this is promising.

I did purchase distilled water, as recommended, but initially I used filterd tap water as I couldn't wait. If you like a clean house, and most people do, this is neat, compact, easy to use machine that really gets the job done. It leaves everything looking like it should (no cleaning fluid film or haze), doesn't take longer than my old way, requires less elbow grease, etc, etc, etc.

There are other small attachments such as different brush lengths, a brass brush and a scrubbing pad one, which I have yet to use. Will update if necessary.

Customer Review: Great machine for around the house

I have been looking for a steamer for a long time and decided on the McCulloch-1275. The main reason was to help me keep our tile floors clean and looking good. Friends told me that they are not worth the money, but I thought diffently. I got the machine and put it together, very easy, read the instuction book, and started it up. I just had to try it in so many places, kitchen sink, counters, inside the garbage disposile, stove, the floor and windows. Then went on to the bath room and cleaned it so well it never looked so good. The laundry room sink was next and it looks almost new, no scrubing, chemicals just the steamer. I have a very old mirror and the frame is hand carved, about 140yrs old, laden with dust and polish I think. You could not see the beautiful detail of the frame and I decided to take a chance to see if I was VERY CAREFUL and used the steamer to clean the frame, well it came out looking better than I had ever thought it would. I then sprayed a furniture restorer and polish on it and now it looks like a million dollars! The steamer has cleaned my title floors like nothing else without chemicals, no streaking or film on the floors. The master bathroom has been a challage since we move into this house, large walk in snail shower with glass block on the one side and cultured marble on the other 3 side pluse the floor. The steamer cleaned every last item, take away the soap scum and water spots. The glass block is repeated on the windows and they too were cleaned with the steamer. Vanity sinks have never looked so good. I then decided to figure out how to use the steamer to steam our shirts, and pants and some place pats. All came out very good, after a few trials. I love this machine, would buy this over and over again and will replace if needed. bought @ amazon.com and received it just one day. Great price and product.

Customer Review: Amazing!

I made the purchase for this product due to the raving reviews on Amazon; however, when the unit was in process of being ship, I kinda had second thoughts because I wasn't sure if it was exactly what I needed. You see, I was looking for something to clean my creamish-white, microfiber sectional couch because it got dirty while I was moving. I didn't want to pay $100+ dollars to get it steamed clean by someone when that's something I probably could do myself. I'm glad I stuck with my decision to purchase. The unit arrived in an actual retail box and in excellent condition. It comes with so many brushes and 2 extended wands. As soon as I took it out the box, I filled it up with filtered water (makes the unit last longer) and from there, I couldn't put it down. Did it do the job I want it to do? Absolutely!!! Plus, it did more: I used it to clean blood-stains off the cots that my dog bled on when she was recovering from delivering puppies, which by the way couldn't be cleaned with Oxy Clean but rather left another huge stain. I've steamed our bathroom tiles and kitchen and never again will I use chemicals to clean sanitary areas of the house.

This little unit is compact enough to be stored anywhere. I just wish it had some holster to hold the brushes. But that's just minor when compare to the rest of the nice things about this unit.

For those who are wondering if the device sucks water while steaming; it doesn't. It doesn't need to. All you need is a dry towel to wipe the very little water that forms after steaming. No worries there. Also, at max water fill, the steam can last from 2-3 hours. If you're planning to steam that long, be prepared to sweat like a pig.

I would definitely recommend this product. Best of all, I would definitely recommend Amazon. Thank you, Amazon.

Customer Review: Good Product

I used the Euro-Shark canister style steamer and like it, but it was not made very well and even using distilled water the canister clogged and eventually the on/off switch failed. The McCulloch is a higher quality system but all of them are glorified steam kettles and will fail due to mineral deposits over time. But, keeping that in mind I find it very useful. The steam will last long enough to do either the upstairs baths or downstairs kitchen and family room hardwood floors. I use older bath cloths that I have demoted to rags because you need to change the pad several times. I don't purchase extras. Any terrycloth towel can be cut to size as well. New uses for other items. I agree with other folks, these work best if you sweep the floors first. You can not expect it to get grout that has not been cleaned for years sparkling white at the first pass, but it will go a remarkable job. It is also helpful to strip wall-paper. Nothing is going to do everything for you. I always have a clean rag to wipe up the lint and dust that gets stuck in the corners, but it come up easily. I like that you do not need chemicals. I use it on carpet and rugs as well, but I work quickly. Same with hardwood floors. You have a long enough cord to more around and it isn't very loud. The shark I had was louder. It does bother my hand to push the on/off to make the steam after a while, but since I have to let it cool down to refill to do another floor, I just deal with it. Better than my back and knees from washing the floor by hand. Find you best price and I don't think you will be disappointed. It won't come out the clothest and wash the floors for you, but it will do a good job and you will kill the germs. Works on trash cans, bathroom wicker cans and the like to disinfect.
