Tools and Hardware Reviews of McCulloch MC-1275 Heavy-Duty Steam CleanerCustomer Review: Very happy with purchase! Summary: 5 Stars
Yes, I am very happy with the McCulloch Steam Cleaner. I read lots of reviews and debated over getting one for quite awhile, but finally "bit the bullet" and ordered one. I have used it twice before writing the review, in case the first time was beginner's luck, and I am absolutely pleased with the performance.
I used it on my bathroom first...wonderful on the tile shower and glass. I have the steam cleaner in one hand and a microfiber cloth in the other, and off I go. Now, does it do all the work for you? No. But it makes the actual clean time much shorter and easier. Then I went to the kitchen. Here is where I got giddy with joy. Cleaned the microwave, stove, and gas cooktop. I used the self-cleaning mode once on the oven and then had to spend $150 to buy a new element because it burned it out. Won't do that again. But I won't need to, because the steam cleaner and a brillo pad did just as good a job. It really made the scrub time much easier, and that alone paid for the machine itself. Then the gas cooktop...here is where I got really giddy. It had brown baked on stains around the elements, and I thought I would have to replace the whole top - I was WRONG! It now looks as good as the day it was installed. And things seems to just shine, which is so nice.
I tried it in my closet on the hardwood, and as previous reviews said it made it streaky looking, so I'll hold off on that until I research that more.
But as of today, I am very very pleased with the steam cleaner. I also love the clean "steam" smell. I don't use chemicals and don't like a bunch of smells, so this is another reason I love this machine. I just walk into the room and smile, because I feel good about how clean and shiny my house is.....very nice.
Customer Review: Love the McCulluch - Replaced my shark mop Summary: 5 Stars
My shark mop stopped working one day and, as working mom of two little boys, it didn't take long for my tile floor to get out of control and sticky. I simply don't have the time to do the deep 'in the corner' cleaner I would like - it has to be quick and hit the highlights.
I was not at all disappointed - if you like the shark mop - you'll love the McCulloch. This machine allows me a little more time and power to clean a little deeper. I wanted something to blast off the dried on sticky stuff from my tile floors without too much effort. I like being able to use the nozzle to clean the grout (particularly in the high traffic areas) then quickly switch to the floor mop to clean it all up. I was also able to use the shark steam mop replacement pads on the floor unit of the MuCulloch.
I got really excited when I turned the nozzle to my stove top and had it shining and gunk free in minutes - next the microwave (awesome).
I spent time looking at steam cleaner online and the options of what to buy ranges from the little steam mops for under $100 up to the more industrial steam cleaners in the $1k+ range. I decided to try this machine priced around ~$100 (which is close to what I paid for my shark steam mop a few years back). I love this machine enough to consider an even more powerful unit should I ever need to replace it.
FYI, the comparable Wagoner steam cleaner gets the same positive reviews, looks the same as the MuCulloch but is about $15 cheaper. I didn't remember it until I had already purchased the Muculloch - I'm still happy.
Pros - works well
Cons - steam nozzle is loud, holding button down is tiresome, would be nice to have compartment to store all accessories.
Customer Review: Works well for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this product for a few weeks and used it extensively when moving into a new place. When I bought it, I had reasonable expectations for the performance and the steamer has performed as it was described. I like that both the hose and the cord for this unit have a long reach which make it easy to do big jobs. I would have liked to see some sort of storage for these on the unit but you can easily wrap them around the wand holder for storage.
The steam produced is powerful and long lasting. I think that I have gotten about 45 minutes of steam from this unit when I filled the reservoir to the maximum recommended amount.
When doing small detail work you almost never have to wait for the machine to catch up. Consider ear protection for these jobs as the sound of steam coming out of the nozzle can be quite loud especially if you are working in a small area. When using the floor attachment or other big attachments you sometimes have to wait for the steam to recharge a little. On the plus side, this can give you a chance to clean up all the dirt it has loosened. There is an indicator on this unit that lets you know if the pressure is low at the moment.
The attachments are not flimsy and I think that they include most of the ones you would need to do most jobs. Overall I think the quality of this unit is above average and it looks like it should last for awhile. For the price I think it is a good value. I wanted something that was reasonbaly put together but did not want to spend the money on a more powerful steamer until I knew what they could do. I would recomend this steamer to anyone looking to try out steam cleaning and not wanting to waste money on junk or more than what they need.
Customer Review: NOW THE REST OF THE STORY!!! BEWARE! Summary: 5 Stars
I have got to give an update!! As you see, I purchased this product approx 1 year ago exactly. I that time period, the boiler, which must be made of aluminum, corroded turning the distilled water into what looks what nuclear waste would be - dirty and thick with nasty sediment. This product is potentially very dangerous too. Long story short - while removing the cap to add more water, it blew off and out of my hand, spewed the nasty, toxic steam up like a gyser ruining the ceiling and rained back down all over expensive, year old carpet! Thank God I had enough brains to NOT be leaning over the unit while releasing the steam in order to remove the cap to add water. A sticker ON THE UNIT in clear view states "wait at least 5 minutes before adding water." Well, you have no way of knowing if the unit is actually empty. Plus, the manual clearly states to wait 30 minutes! That does make more sense since the water is under pressure. Be careful people! This product is a serious accident waiting to happen!!! Plus, the boiler corroding within a year is unacceptable!! Don't waste your money!
I purchased this item in order to sanitize and deodorize a fairly large area of new carpet. My poor cat had eaten a portion of a plastic bag and got really sick. My Simon recovered and I got the "accident" out of the carpet, but I wanted to make certain that the carpet not only looked clean, but was clean. I had a small Hoover steam cleaner - but it wouldn't work. I read a couple of reviews, and I decided to order this item. It was easy to set up and to use. With so many attachments, there are all kinds of things I can clean and disinfect. I give it a 2 thumbs up.
Customer Review: Great product! Summary: 5 Stars
I live in an apartment that LOOKS nice, but a lot of the products used in the building aren't the best of quality. I have linoleum floors that look dirty, no matter how clean they actually are. After doing a lot of research into what cleaner would give me the best for my money, I came across this one and figured I'd give it a try. It has done amazing things for my home! Things that I could never get properly cleaned before are shining like new now! I cleaned out my oven, microwave, my whole kitchen, my bathrooms, everything that would normally be cleaned by chemicals, they're now looking better than ever. But what's more, my floors finally LOOK clean. It's so easy to use, and puts out amazing results. I have seen that people complained about it being really loud, but it's steam coming out of a hose, it's going to make some noise. It isn't so loud though that it scares my cats, so it's not that bad. I've already lent it out to my mom so she can see if she's going to get her own, and I think she will!
The only negative, like others have said, is that the little brush tips aren't that sturdy, but I used a kitchen nylon type scrubber instead of scrubbing with those, and that worked perfectly cleaning tough stuff like my oven. Also, it takes a while to let it cool down to open the nob to add more water, but I usually just move on to cleaning/doing something else around the house while it cools enough to get it open and it's not a big problem.
All in all, I completely love this product. I will use this thing forever, and I'm always finding new ways to use it, so it'll never get old!
