Tools and Hardware Reviews of McCulloch MC-1275 Heavy-Duty Steam CleanerCustomer Review: Very pleased with the product. Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this item becuase I own a car detailing business. I bought it originally for use in the cars I clean. It's a great tool for cleaning the air vents in cars (something I previously had to use cotton swabs on), the interior roof of the car as well as in the doors where dirt accumulates.
I have used it in my house as well for things like decorative pieces with many grooves, the rubber seals on the refrigerator as well as the refrigerator doors, in the tracks of the sliding glass doors, on walls, ceiling fans, tops of door frames, the stovetop, mini-blinds, vertical blinds, the microwave..the list just goes on and on.
Another great use for this is cleaning any silk flowers and plants.
It's great for cleaning previously hard to reach areas that used to require either a toothbrush or even a toothpick to get to (yes, I'm that detailed in my cleaning). This has simplified the task for me and I love it.
The cleaner produces a lot of steam and lasts long enough to complete the tasks I require of it.
I'm sure there are higher dollar steamers out there that probably work better, but for the things I've need it for, it was has been a great product for the money.
Amazon has the best price of any site on this product as well, I recomment buying it here and the shipping was very fast.
Customer Review: Good for Upholstery Summary: 5 Stars
Appears to be well made with quality brass fittings. The "manual" is a little short on suggested uses. For instance, the floor brush has spring loaded clips on the back which make it easy to secure the provided cloth. It was then easy to use on a large cotton base sectional couch I have in a very light beige color. It did a very good job in doing a general cleaning and brightened up the couch nicely. The couch has some brown water staings which did not come out but I did not expect them to. I will use Haitian Cotton Shampoo and a large horsehair shoe brush to get these out using only the foam from the shampoo. I tried using the foam from a detergent and this worked well to considerably lighten the stain. A professional wanted $750 and Sears $200 to do the cleaning; then Sears said they would not do the job if the piece had any brown water stains. I tried Woolite spray upholstery cleaner and this did nothing. The couch is rated "W" which means no solvent cleaners (and be very careful)
I am very pleased with the job the McCulloch did as a general upholstery cleaner and refresher. Be careful with water drips that occasionally happen when the unit is turned on and then off. When you start up again do so away from the piece.
I also did the vinyl kitchen floor and it came out very nicely too.
Customer Review: My Wife Won't Stop Using It Summary: 5 Stars
When we had our first child, we also had a dog. Molly pretty much licked up any food that hit the floor, making the occasional mopping sufficient. Our second child came after Molly left us, and we were shocked at how fast apple juice, goldfish, crumbs and the rest become a paste that, with scrubbing, still leaves a film at best.
We got the steamer for a microfiber chair that had gotten spotty, but this model was recommended for floors, too. It might, we hoped, replace Molly. We wanted to see it in person, but could not find a carrier. Apparently, the steam cleaner is this year's thing to have, as we saw many more expensive models, or same-price models that got horrible reviews.
This exceeded our expectations. It revived the chair, another chair, and then cleaned the floors so they felt clean. Now, I see a difference between clutter and dirt. This cleaned dirt.
My wife does two rooms a week. After a month, she starts from square one. It is slow, but thorough. Quiet. It has held up well; I'm not sure what abuses other posters are putting this to, but they seem to expect a commercial grade product. We find distilled water is easy to find. Both of us recommend this product.
Customer Review: What else can I say??? IT CLEANS GROUT!!! Summary: 5 Stars
There is nothing else I could add to the reviews written by "Meanwhile" and "Magnus Opus" about how well this machine works other than to say that it thoroughly cleans grout. I have porcelein tile on my kitchen floor and have not had the grout look this new since a month after the floor was put in. I have 4 kids, 3 dogs and a lot of floor traffic through the kitchen. I always assumed that the floor would need to be regrouted because of the discoloration, but NO!! I just steamed the dirty area for 5 seconds, then used the brush to scrub the dirt out. I am very chemically-sensitive so I was interested in finding ways to clean thoroughly but with no chemicals. Yes, you do need to scrub. Yes, you do need to spend time cleaning. But I believe it can do a great job on certain cleaning projects. My bathroom does not smell like pee anymore because the pressurized steam gets all the gunk out from under the holding tank and toilet, and anywhere else little boys spray. It really does a good job and I'm glad I spent the money on the higher end machine as opposed to the H20 mop. My sister in law loves her H20 mop, but she does not have kids or pets tracking in dirt, mud, grass, etc. If your family is like mine, this machine is a good choice.
Customer Review: Great for Grout! Summary: 5 Stars
My wife and I decided to give the MC-1275 a try after reading several reviews. We are 74 yrs old and not afraid of a little work! We bought it for cleaning the light colored sanded grout on the 12" tiled floors, using one of the small round brushes with all the extension wands to reduce leaning over. Moving the wand slowly along the grout gave the steam a chance to do it's job worked the best applying some pressure and scrubbing action in the hard to clean areas doing about 12-16 tiles at a time. We had several old bath towels handy to wipe up water (which really wasn't that much). I found using my stocking feet on the towels to wipe up the water worked just fine. We did 460sq.ft in 6hrs using 2 gals of Distilled Water. The floor looks brand new! A word of caution...be careful when refilling water tank..steam will shoot up at first! By the way..some reviews say that it is noisy..not so, maybe about half the loudness of a vacuum cleaner. Besides, it's just the isssing of steam. More pleasant than a vac. Also, we used the same brush and wore it down about halfway rotating it during the refill cycle so it would wear evenly. Let's see....now if I could just get the coffee stains off my teeth...
