Tools and Hardware Reviews of Midwest Gloves and Gear 45TA, Lawn Claws Leaf Scoops

Customer Review: Useful tools at a good price!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought these based on: 1) the reasonable price and, 2) the positive reviews from other customers. I really wasn't sure just how helpful the lawn claws would be but I am happy to report that they really do make picking up leaves go faster. I tried them yesterday; in no time at all, I filled and emptied the garden container 3 times. Unfortunately, I had to remove the claws to empty the container and that slowed me down. I may need to invest in more containers so I can get more leaves and clippings picked up before I have to stop and empty them. I noticed that mine have velcro on the elastic strap so they are adjustable (and maybe removable for washing) but unless you have really large or small hands, most average (garden-gloved) hands should fit snugly but comfortably. The plastic construction seems to be flexible but I wouldn't put too much weight or pressure on them. The only downside I noticed is having to bend over to pick up the clippings, as there are no handles on the claws. Older people or those with back issues might have some problems using them. Otherwise, I find the lawn claws to be good garden tools, which I think I will use quite often, and would definitely recommend them to others.

Customer Review: cheap, simple, no brainer
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok everybody who saw that immediately thought: oh what a great idea, and shortly after: but that must be a gadget that I will store and never use.

Well, for that dollar amount even if you used it once only and it saved you one hour, i'd say it would be a pretty good deal already.
But make no mistake, you'll use them much more than that, and what's even sweeter, your kids will never say no when asked to gather the leaves with that toy.
First i make piles of leaves on the ground with the rack, then I use the claws to transfer in the wheelbarrow.
It's fast, ergonomic, and saves you quite a number of back and forth painful bendings.
It's not going to revolutionize the industry, nor turn a not so fun task into an exhilarating event, but hey, every little thing helps.
I'm pleased with this product. (i don't really think there's a huge difference in quality, so I'd advise you to get the cheapest product. I've seen rigid plastic handles though, and I think the elastic ones would work better. But again, comfort is not a tremendous deal when you only use this thing an hour at a time to transfer or bag your pile of leaves)

Customer Review: A life saver! Great for leaves and mulch!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought these from Amazon last winter so I didn't get to use them for leaves until this fall. First, I do remember that they arrived in the mail really fast!
I have a huge maple tree in my yard - hence a lot of leaves. I put the leaves in a wheelbarrow and haul them to the back of my property. These "claws" made a huge difference and much easier work this year! I filled the wheelbarrow in no time! And because they're large and flat you can lean on them and really crunch down the leaves in the wheelbarrow to fit more. Then I stuck them in the sides of the full wheelbarrow and they acted like walls to hold the leaves in and keep them from bouncing out on the way. And then you can use them as a rake and dustpan for the last little bit that would take you forever by hand.
Also, I used them in the spring to add landscaping mulch to my flower beds - Again they made it much easier and faster because you can just move so much material so much faster.
One of my favorite things!

Customer Review: Bought as an afterthought, but what a joy to use!
Summary: 5 Stars

This set of garden claws was purchased as an afterthought to qualify for free shipping. I gigured 'why not' as they were well priced and appeared to be of some small value.

I was surprised and delighted by the versatility and functionality of them when they arrived!

The design is simple and straight forward- nothing hidden or needed to figure out: straps are made of heavy-duty elastic and are adjustable, the claw side picks up debris without collapse, and the back side of these is a perfect dustpan for the small stuff you don't get with the claws.

My neighbors looked at me funny when I offered them to pick up debris from a shrub that had been trimmed, and gt very quiet when they used 'em- and used 'em, and continued to do so until the pile was gone. I got the impression they were not easy to return to me.

So, don't think twice- if you use them three times in a season, they will pay for themselves 3 times over.

Customer Review: Great time saver relieves the monotony of picking up leaves
Summary: 5 Stars

There are two reasons the lawn claws are great for bagging or shredding leaves:

1. You can pick up 3 or 4 times the volume of leaves that you can gather with your gloved hands alone, whether bagging leaves or dumping them in the hopper of a leaf shredder.

2. When you have bagged or shredded all but the remnants of a pile of leaves, you can use one claw to "rake" the remnants onto the other claw, rather than dropping the claws and going to fetch a long-handled rake to finish up.

Also, I find that if you grip the claws back edges rather than putting your hands through the straps, you do not need to bend over so far when picking up leaves, much easier on your back.

In fact, I would recommend that the manufacturer produce a senior version with short foot-long handles for older people who have lost flexibility over the years.
